SOURCE: ink absorber full warning

Yes, first unplug the power chord and then the usb chord. When you are done doing that, take the printer to an area where you have a little working space. Put it down on some newspaper. Open the lid. (Normally, when you open the lid with printer on, the cartridges will slide over to the left of the machine, this is important to remember for part of the cleaning). Now, with printer lid up in the air, look down inside the printer. you will see some plastic running horizontal with the printer ribbon, (the area I am referring to is right under where the ink cartriges slide back and forth)on the floor of the printer. If you take your finger and feel inside, you will find a very thin, narrow piece of foam in between the plastic strips. You can gently remove this foam and clean it with denatured alcohol and let it completely dry before replacing. You can also go in and clean the plastic area with a Qtip, because there will be a residue of ink all over this area. Also, right under where the ink cartridges park when opening the lid when plugged in is another small piece of rubber pad that should be cleaned too. Once you have done this, and this is important.. before, and during the replugging of the usb plug and the power chord, YOU MUST keep the "on key" pressed in. This is going to help reset your printer once it's plugged in. So keep your on button pressed down and plug both chords in. ONCE that's done, let go of the power button. It will go on and run through some of it's noise. The yellow light might come on again, that's okay, just turn off your printer, wait a few seconds and turn it back on. It should work fine. We did this because we had read about holding in the button for resetting. If you clean the ink pads in the future you must do that because it actually is resetting something in your printer. Mine works just fine. I will add that I went through a lot of ink cartridges to get to this point but it is pretty easy to clean if you just take your time, be patient and carefully remove the foam not to damage it. Good luck

SOURCE: indicates waste ink absorber is almost full on cannon i9900 print

Inkjet printers have a fibrous pad inside them that collects the waste ink from cleaning the print head. Over time, this pad fills up with ink and can no longer hold any more. When this occurs, the printer indicates a "waste ink full" error.

The waste ink absorption pads cannot be emptied, only replaced.

Replacing the waste ink absorption pads is something an authorized canon service facility can take care of for you. Once they are replaced, it'll be functional again.

"The waste ink absorber is almost full" message?

This applies to the CANON PIXMA MP130 and other ink-jets made by Canon/Pixma.

According to the user's manual, "Ink used to clean the print head is absorbed by the waste ink tank. When this message is displayed, the waste ink tank needs to be replaced, or the machine requires maintenance". There is no information about how to replace or empty the waste ink tank.

In any case, you can try the following to clear up the error, but eventually you'll need the waste tank to be emptied or replaced. And as far as I know, you can't find the replacement parts to buy, nor the instructions to empty the waste tank.

Turn on your MP130.
1) After that press: Menu - Scan - Copy - Scan or Menu-Copy-Scan-Copy-Copy in some models, it depends on the date it was produced)
2) Select TEST MODE.
3) Enter NVRAM ACCESS
4) Select SET ABS-M LEVEL TO 0
5) Select OK
6) Keep selecting OK untill you leave the TEST MODE

Then turn it OFF and again ON. Check if the error message is still there.
The following is taken from the Canon website, regarding this specific error:

"Canon recommends having the printer serviced before the absorber becomes full. We are aware that there are many "do-it-yourself" Web sites that offer instructions for making this repair. Replacing the ink absorber is a complicated and potentially messy procedure. Even if the ink absorber is successfully changed, the ink absorber counter must be reset. Be aware that if you attempt this procedure, it is at your own risk."

As I mentioned before, I have not found any way or procedure to empty or replace the waste ink absorber nor the necesary replacement part.

Mp510 waste ink needs emptying

Ink Absorber Full
This may clear the ink absorber problem. There is ink absorbers located at both ends of the printer where the ink head move.
To dry the ink absorber, power up the printer and open the cover so the ink cartridges and print head will move to the middle of the printer.
Then take several sheets of absorbent tissue, fold it into a pad and place it inside the printer over the ink absorber on the far left hand side of the printer to soak up the excess ink. You may need to change the absorbent tissue a few times. Then repeat the same procedure on the right hand ink absorber.
Close the lid and the printer should now function normally.

Message about ink asorber full keeps appearing

When the printer is not being used, the print-heads slide to their "resting" position,
in order to keep the ink-jets moist, i.e., to NOT dry-out.

Some ink is absorbed into that INK-ABSORBER.

Now, after a few years of usage, that ink-absorber is "full".

Like taking-out the garbage from your kitchen waste-basket when it gets full, and replacing the full waste-basket with an empty waste-basket, it's time to get your printer serviced -- replace the "full" ink-absorber with an "empty" ink-absorber.

Note that CANON printers do not actually "measure" the fullness -- they electronically estimate the fullness, given information about how much you print, and how often you print, and the "density" of the pages that you do print (text is much less dense than colour-photos).

Error Number: 1700 The waste ink absorber is almost full. What is it? Where do I get a replacement? How do I replace one?

Not all the ink that gets pulled out of an ink-cartridge reaches the paper. Some of the "ink" is "waste". As such, it goes into an "absorber" (a sponge). The electronics inside the printer "predict" when the absorber is getting full, based on the number of pages you print, and the time between printing pages.

So, take your printer to a qualified printer technician.
They will empty the absorber, or replace it,
and "reset" the electronics inside the printer,
to indicate that the absorber has become "empty".

Waste ink absorber

You'll always find the wast ink absorber under the printer head after printer head prints and rest, there is a rubber type clip which cleans the head and the ink drips down on the cushion absorber. Disassemble the printer and remove the cushion than dip in the bucket of water until ink dissolves out of the cushion and wash under running tap until clean then dry and finish, put back the item and assemble the printer.
