Im having trouble hooking up my equalizer to my Pioneer audio/video multichannel receiver vsx-814

Looking at the back..bottom right corner is CDR/Tape in and out. Connect the in on the eq to the out of CDR/tape, connect the out of the eq to the in of CDR/tape.
You should then be able to use the CDR/tape monitor button to switch the equalizer in and out.

Hey there denisr, please take look at the display screen on the unit. If you see MONITOR, indicated in the display, then this is your problem . Simply deactivate via the button on the front of your machine. Hope it helps. Good Luck!

Pioneer 409 setting up for surround sound

I think there is a switching problem in the surround receiver. I would take the receiver to a qualified servicer. There is nothing user serviceable in the unit. Question .Why are you using optical output from ps3. I recommend you connect all you a/v devised to the tv. Then connect the opt out of tv to receiver. that way what ever you are viewing will send audio via opt out of tv to receiver. that way you do not have to switch input on receiver. Hope this helps.

Pioneer vsx-454 not working propley.radio not even hissing, managed to get whisper sound via pc aux,i have cleaned inids?

It sounds like you're not in the right input source (mode) or you have a external source selected. I show your unit as a 1995 model and so check your Tape 1, Tape 2 selection buttons. These "Tape" selection button get dirty contacts that will kill the audio. To clean, with the volume low, press them on and off around 20 times each. This works the contacts back-n-forth and will help clean them.

I'm connecting Bose 901 speakers with an Active Equilizer hookup required to my new Pioneer VSX-520. What in/out puts should be used ??

The solution to using 901's in a multichannel rig works best when you have individual Front Right and Left Pre-Outs but this receiver doesn't have them so a compromise is in order.

First some background.

The use of 901's Active EQ (or any external processor) in any digital AV receiver setup for anything EXCEPT STEREO listening through the 901's alone requires you to have a separate amplifier for them and to avoid having to use a Tape Monitor which could introduce proprietary and potentially damaging Active Equalization back into anything in the AV Receiver with its conventional speakers.

In an AVR, if you activate any Tape Monitor circuit at all, you will kill any digital sources. That is a function of AV receivers in general, nothing to do with 901's. Your Pre-Outs get us around that possibility and limitation but it also means you need a moderately powerful amp for your 901's.

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Pioneer-VSX-520-K-Receivers-manual/id/23653ag911/t/2/

This works for all models of AV receivers when you want 901's as Front L&R speakers...

Get yourself a nice separate amp, draw the Front L&R pre-out signals from wherever you can find them, in your case maybe the CDR or DVR/VCR outputs.

On many AVR's, there is a pre-amp out for every channel in case you want to run external amps for any channels. That is how my old Pioneer VSX-36TX is equipped. For others (yours), you have to borrow the signals from a typical CDR or DVR/VCR Output RCA pair. Just remember, AV receivers disable digital inputs as soon as you switch in a Tape Monitor, so choose one you won

How do I preset the tuner for radio stations. I've never had a problem doing this with any other stereo. But what I think should work isn't!

Not very specific. Do you have the manual?

The following is from a VSX-03TXH manual. It ain't pretty but it may help.

I'm posting it in multiple parts due to space contraints.

Chapter 6:

Using the tuner

Listening to the radio

The following steps show you how to tune in to FM and

AM radio broadcasts using the automatic (search) and

manual (step) tuning functions. If you already know the

frequency of the station you want, see Tuning directly to a

station below. Once you are tuned to a station you can

memorize the frequency for recall later-see Saving

station presets below for more on how to do this.

1 Press the FM/AM button to select the tuner.

2 Use the FM/AM button to change the band (FM or

AM), if necessary.

Each press switches the band between FM and AM.

3 Tune to a station.

There are three ways to do this:

Automatic tuning

To search for stations in the currently selected band,

press and hold TUNE ?©/?? for about a second. The

receiver will start searching for the next station,

stopping when it has found one. Repeat to search for

other stations.

Manual tuning

To change the frequency one step at a time, press

TUNE ?©/??.

High speed tuning

Press and hold TUNE ?©/?? for high speed tuning.

Release the button at the frequency you want.

Improving FM stereo sound

If the TUNED or STEREO indicators don't light when

tuning to an FM station because the signal is weak, press

the MPX button to switch the receiver into mono

reception mode. This should improve the sound quality

and allow you to enjoy the broadcast.

Using Neural THX

This feature uses Neural Surround™, THX® technology to

achieve optimal surround sound from FM radio.

• While listening to FM radio, press AUTO/DIRECT for
Neural THX listening.

Can I connect an equalizer to my pioneer vsx-d209 and how

YES YOU CAN. IF YOU HAVE THE MANUAL JUST FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING THE CASSETTE. IF NOT, THEN ROUTE YOUR RCA CABLES THE RECEIVER RECORD OUT TO THE RECORD IN ON THE EQ AND THEN PLAY OUT FROM THE EQ TO PLAY IN ON THE RECEIVER. TO LISTEN THROUGHT THE EQ JUST PRESS THE "MONITOR" BUTTON ON THE FRONT OF THE RECEIVER.

I have a Bose 901 Series VI speaker system & have recently purchased a Pioneer VSX-1020-K AV Receiver. How do I connect the 901's EQ to this amp. I believe the only option is the CDR/TAPE IN/OUT...

This receiver has no pre-amp outs to drive the required separate amp the 901's need for you to continue to have multichannel digital audio. The reason: activation of a tape loop disables digital inputs. But they DID give you Front Height. Oh boy.

Pioneer VSX-D209 receiver shuts off when too loud

Dear Tabasco,

Your receiver is basically going into protect mode.

Just check your speaker cabling again. Make sure that all of them are seated properly, none is touching each other or the body of receiver. Take out all the wire and put them back again if necessary..
Some times even a little tiny frayed wire touching the receiver could trigger the protect mode. Be careful, since protect mode is sometimes not fast enough and it could blown a few trasistors in the power circuit.
Just check your speaker as well....whether they play all right thru another receiver or amplifier. its posiible they might be shorting inside. A little frayed wire could also trigger the protect circuit in your receiver.
I hope this should solve your problem.

If everything else seems all right and still your receiver shut down when you raise the volume then it possible that there are bad connections on the main board that are set in.

This would generally happen if the system is slighly old or have dry solder and when you raise up the volume. This should be a simple repair that will not require parts. If you can solder, you will be able to repair this yourself. If not, then a local service center will change the local labor rate.
Hope you can sort out your problem with the above trouble shooting. Let me know if I can guide you further.
Best of luck! Thanks for using FixYa!
