Technics SA-DX950 surround sound problems

The surround sound on my receiver does not work properly when it is first turned on. To begin with I only get sound from 2 or 3 speaks mainly the center and the rights (front and back). However if I turn the volume above 37 they all start working and continue to work even when I lower the volume. Although I can continue to use the receiver like this it is rather annoying and I would really appreciate some help in eradicating the problem.

Many thanks Dan. I have been reading other postings and was starting to think that may be the case. I think I will take to it someone to get the relay replaced and I expect having the numbers will help. Thanks again for a prompt and helpful response

The most likely culprit here is the output protection relay. The contacts are a little corroded and the higher volume "jumps the gap" temporarily "cleaning" the contacts. The relay should be changed. I don't have the manual with me, but the following relays are in the unit. One of them is the speaker relay:

Part # Cost
RSY0054-C $12.63
RSY0040M-0 $ 5.89
K6B2AHA00014 $ 8.14

Technics SA-DX950 intermitently sounds blown out

There are poor solder connections at the output amp pacs and the voltage regulators. Once these are resoldered the problem should go away. If you can solder, resolder any connections that appear grainy or have rings. If you can not, this should be effectively a labor only repair for any shop that works on audio gear.

Technics SA-DX950 has lost digital sound

This may sound like a silly check, but verify that the tape monitor switch is not engaged. What is the quality of the sound when turned up? Is the cound clear or raspy?

Thanks,

Technics SH-AC300 Connection to Power Amp & Pre-Amp

Hi!
The problem is, that your SH-AC300 needs an amp with 5.1 input (but no decoder). For this purpose technics delivered SA-AX710.
So if you'd like to use your current equipment it would be impossible.
The only option is for you to buy 2 more Power Amps (SE-A900S), so that each of 3 amps would take care for one part of music. (one for FL, FR; one for RL, RR; and one for sub and center).
Another option is for you to buy SA-AX710. Then all the problems would be solved with it.

Technics SA-DX950

sounds like the speaker protection relay is operating probably from a dc condition appearing on power amplifiers outputs. probable cause is dry solder joints to the output stages. will need some reworking of the PA stage soldering to fix.

Adam's Problem

you have a short circuit occurring in speaker outputs. If you are using the high power inputs of the sub, try disconnecting them first. check polarity of speaker connections to sub also.

Speaker Hook Up - Non-Technical (single) Female

bought the same amp second hand and had same problem as there are two seperate amp chips inside one for front speakers and one for the centre and rears it could be the actual amp chip that drives the front speakers has died as there is no built in speaker protection so over driving these speakers will result in the amp chip blowing . it may be something simple but it was not on mine had to buy new amp chip and solder in that sorted the problem for me !

I hooked two Receivers up in series a Technics SA-DX930 and a different kind I'm not sure wut kind. They worked great for a while, but when they got turned up a little louder they both quit puting out...

you blew your power amp board, you cannot hook them in series due to impediance matching and improper input levels, cheaper to replace reciever than the board
