I have an error message that reads: Replace Black PCU. What is a Black PCU, where is is, and how do I go about replacing? The printer originally quit working, when this message appeared, but once I turned the printer off and restarted it is now printing, but the message is still there.
my printer just starting showing function error SC899 with the instructions to turn off and restart. Well I have done that and the error message keeps appearing, any suggestion of what it might be and what I can do to fixes the problem?my printer just starting showing function error SC899 with the instructions to turn off and restart. I'm not sure how to obtain one, but "Black PCU" stands for Black Photoconductor Unit, and according to a manual for a different Ricoh printer model, it should be fairly simple to replace if you can find one.

sc 491 is error signal is detected for 0.2 seconds when charging the drum or development.
• High voltage leak
• Broken harness
• Defective drum unit or development unit
• Defective high voltage supply unit
Turn the machine off. Open the access door and remove the cyan photoconductor unit. Check the contact pins are straight and undamaged. Gently reinsert the unit. Turn the power back on. If the machine still does not recognise the pcu is inserted it is probably damaged and needs replacing. How many copies/prints has your machine done?
I believe its asking you to change the photo conductor unit. From what I can tell there are 2. Theres a black photo conductor and a color photo conductor. If its not telling you which one you should be able to print a supplies status page and you can see which one needs to be replaced. I'm not totally familiar with the machine but the PCU's should be located in the cartridge area. I just checked out our supply catalog and you should be able to order them from any office supply store or Ricoh dealer. Just a heads up..from what I'm looking at the black pcu is pretty reasonable, but the color one is $300 plus! For your sake I hope its the black one that needs replacement! You should be able to verify the error message in your user manual and more than likely find the part number for ordering.
Hi there the following is the description from the service manual hope this helps you Thanks J
441 PCU (CMY) motor error The drive motor of the CMY PCU is not locked. • Defective gear • Voltage between pins 2 and 14 (CN12 on engine control board) abnormal (not +24V), or pin 12 (CN12 on engine control board) unable to send motor clock • Defective CMY PCU drive motor 1. Replace the CMY PCU. 2. Replace the engine control board. 3. Replace the main drive unit assembly.
I would try replacing the CMY PCU (Drums (Photo Conductor Units) first before any of the others.
Hi yes you can fix it yourself it is just a warning that says the black pcu is almost warn out , but if the quality is still good you can clear the message is the sp modes by holding down online and escape whilst switching on the machine , under the menu "engine " is a sub menu called data log enter it and execute pm counter reset
hope this helps
