C31:22 error - manual says it is something I can fix myself either by a) removing the cassette and re-inserting or b) removing the battery and re-inserting.

Neither works, pressing reset doesn't work, and hitting it 3 times with my hand by the night shot doesn't work either.

When doing the reset, it tries to roll the tape and starts but then stops and flashes this error.

'm sure it is a bad connection, but how do I get a good one? Does it need a repair workshop?

    Hoping for help.

my handy cam keeps telling me to re-insert tape. It may think it has moisture but it does not. Is this something I can fix?

    Thanks,

when i insert a tape into my dcr-trv280 it beeps and then tells me to "reinsert cassette" problem has just begun right after new years. to tell you the truth i'm afraid of doing much more than just trying different tapes. my last sony had cassette problems also.

I have no idea how or why but it worked for me too!!!  Was very sceptical - and it took four sets of three slaps to get it - but it's now working fine (Although the audio seems slightly out of sync?!)

Same problem here.. never even had the dumb thing for a year and it started acting up. It's driving me nuts. I spent enough money on this thing and it doesn't even work.

I'm a believer... you were all nuts for a little bit... however... smacking it in the exact spot, and reseting the camera does work! Thanks!

I removed my battery and it didn't help,
i pressed and held the reset button,
it didn't help.
after that i hit it three times at the top near the night shot plus, nothing.

then i took out the tape and hit it three more times. it reset and i had to put in the date and time and walah it works again.

thank you

SAME PROBLEM - SAME SOLUTION.
No #2. FANTASTIC CURE!

Why isn't it in user manual troubleshooter??

I used my 10 years old Nokia 3110 to spare my hands. 3 slams - peace of cake.

Friendly suggestion:
Don't use this cure for your camera too often too hard.
Overdose brings side effects and complications.
Contact spray can do a lot if you know where and how to use it..
Otherwise, ask someone qualified.

If you see a number appearing at the right corner of the lcd like the following..c31:23/c31:22 for reel sensor,c31:30 for the capstan motor responsible for playing/rewinding/forwarding its the one that moving the tape,c31:40 for the drum assembly at the center of the mechanism...sometimes all of these problem is poor connection at the socket on the main board.

Hello, I have a Sony Digital8 Handycam 700x SteadyShot DCR-TRV 230. Can I bypass the tape cassette and record directly into a PC? If so, would I still need to insert a tape? Thank you for your help.

No, that's not possible unfortunately. The live stream would have much more data than the USB or firewire connection could handle, and your PC would have to be top notch spec wise to keep up.

Long answer short, no.

TRV285 E, Insert cassette msg is appearing

I also had a similar problem. There was a message appearing "re-insert the cassette". I contacted Sony India. They advised to reset the Handycam (there is a button 'Reset' under the LCD when it is closed). After doing the Reset the message disappeared and it is working fine at the moment. I also checked up a forum for the message. A lot of people having the same problem were suggesting to whack the camcorder on the cassette side. Although i did not have to resort to it.

Camcorder

if all the indicators i.e. battery condition, play mark, counter, etc are visible on the screen then it can be a simple problem of dirty video head. try using a head cleaning cassette or do the head cleaning manually, Open the cover by removing three screws on the right hand side next to the viewfinder. Slide it little towards front and pick it up. The video head will be visible.
