If out of warranty time frame, open her up and check the grey cables that you will notice right after you crack the case. Make sure the cable is un damaged and connects to the main board (the big one) to the I/O board (attached to rear housing). If no change, then try resetting GPS user data.
At User Menu (after reboot), press "-" key and repeat key at the same time. select reset GPS user data and cross your fingers.

i use to own a 700, i advise you to get the new magellan mastreo 4000 or higher,i did my research and the magellan700 roadmate is no longer being serviced.that is what the magellan website has had showed and someone on here also has said it and they start to have alot of problems.i own now a mastreo 4000 so far so good no problems.
get a new unit like any magellan mastreo series 4000 or higher or roadmate 800 or higher,i had a 700 they start having alot of problems after i did my research on here.i have the mastreo 4000 and the roadmate 800 both work great.
The most obvious question is, have you accidentally turned down the volume to a level where it can't be heard. There is a volume wheel on the unit. Also, there is a way that the sound can disappear if the unit gets "locked up". But that shouldn't be a persistent problem. Removing the power cord and reinserting it should clear that problem.
I just got off the phone with India (Tech Service). I sent my Roadmate 700 for service in October. When it did not come back, I called 4x and had to prove I sent it in with a copy of the tracking number from UPS. It has taken 2 mos to resolve, but they are sending me a Maestro 4250, free shipping for $300.00. Their first offer was for a free 3100. I was told the Roadmate 700 series is discontinued.
