SOURCE: acer aspire 6920 back to factory settings

Acer sent me these instructions.

The other way before Vista starts up is to tap ALT + F10 (at the same time repeatedly) when the computer is first switched on.. The window of opportunity is very small, so this may take a few attempts

Once you have tapped both the ALT and F10 repeatedly, you may see a screen showing:

“Edit Boot options for Microsoft Windows Vista”

If you see this, unfortunately, you have missed the window of opportunity, and you need to restart, and try again.

If you see this:
“Edit Boot options for Windows Setup” OR “Edit Boot options for Acer eRecovery”

Then it indicates that you have tapped the ALT + F10 correctly, and all you now need to do is press “Enter” and the Recovery program should load on your screen after a short pause..

In some cases, you may need to remove the battery (for notebooks only) and run the machine directly from the mains.

The Disk2Disk recovery feature allows you to recover the system without recovery CDs.

This will return your system to factory settings and will delete everything stored on the machine.
If possible we strongly advise backing up anything important on your machine before starting the recovery process.

there are 2 ways for doing this

1) Fast and easy without backup disk just do this

Acer: When you turn on the laptop and see the Acer logo screen, hold the ALT key and press the F10 key (you need to do this before the Acer logo disappears).

2) If the method above doesnt work u can do it thru backup disk u have got when u purchased ur laptop u shud have made it thru Erecovery software.

Pls rate me FIXYA for help !

You will have to order the erecovery cds from Acer to put it back to factory settings. They can about $40.00 to $50.00 dollars and they arrive about a week after you order them. Once you get them, you boot from cdrom and follow the instructions on the screen.

If it is an upgrade problem, I think you need to install the Windows from scratch (not an upgrade option).

Reset acer

The Acer Aspire One is a netbook, not a laptop.
A netbook is a smaller, scaled-down version of a laptop. It does not have the memory capacity or graphics of a regular laptop.
It also lacks a CD drive, which means you cannot restore the Acer Aspire One with restore discs. Instead, the netbook has a built-in factory restore feature.
You can reset the Acer Aspire One to factory settings just using your keyboard.
Only restore your netbook to factory settings if you cannot fix the problem any other way.
Save any files or folders on your Acer Aspire One with flash drives.
Drag and drop files onto the icon of your flash drive.
Go to Start > Restart to reboot your netbook.

Hold down Alt and F10 when you see the Acer logo on the screen.
The recovery menu will load.
Hit Enter and then Next to see your recovery options.
Choose Factory Restore to set your netbook back to factory settings.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
Choose your time zone and language when the customization menu appears.
Reboot the netbook when you are prompted.
Restore your saved files from the flash drive.
or
When a vital file becomes corrupted, it might be necessary to restore a computer to its original factory settings.
This process also cleans up the hard drive and removes old programs that can make a computer slow and unresponsive.
But, because restoration wipes away all files you have installed or created, it should be a last-ditch effort in trying to repair a computer.
If you have reached this point with your Acer laptop or desktop, the manufacturer provides a utility to restore the factory settings.

Open the Windows Start menu by clicking on the icon in the lower left corner of your desktop.
Click All Programs, then the Acer folder.

Select Acer eRecovery Management to open the utility.
If a Windows prompt asks for permission to run the program, click Yes.

Click the Restore button in the pane on the left side of the program window.
Click Completely Restore System to Factory Defaults.
Select the Yes option in the dialog box that asks you to confirm the action, and click Start.
Click OK in the second confirmation dialog box to restart the computer.
Click Next in the warning window that appears after the computer reboots.
This confirms that you realize restoring the computer deletes any data stored on your hard drive.

Click Next again in the Restore Destination window, and click OK in the popup that gives you one last warning about deleting your data.
The restoration process will begin.

Click OK when the utility lets you know that the restoration is complete.
The computer will restart, and Windows will finish the recovery process.

Mi notebook acer aspire 3000LCi the only do is a an upper and i dont have a recovery disk

When you restore your system back to the new factory settings, it will wipe your hard drive clean and do a fresh install of the operating system with the original factory setting.

To start this process, unplug all extra devices from your computer

(printers, external hard drives, etc.) as these can interfere with the system restore.

Starting with Windows XP, most systems with issued a system recovery disk in case of any problems with the factory installation.

Check the documentation and disks that came with your computer to determine if you have one of these system disks.

If you do have a copy of this disk, place it in your CD/DVD drive and restart your computer.

If you do NOT have a copy of this disc, skip to step 3 for further instructions.

Once you restart your computer, a screen will appear with the words.

Press Any Key to Boot From CD. Once you press a key, a screen will come up containing instructions to format your hard drive and restore the original factory settings.

Follow the on-screen prompts to finish the installation.

Once the restore is complete, remove your Recovery CD from the disk drive so that your computer does not try to boot from the CD again.

Restart your computer to complete the restore.

3. If you do not have a System Restore disk, then your computer should have a recovery partition on your hard drive, separate from the main partition of the disk.

Unplug all external devices and restart your computer.

When the loading screen comes on with the Windows logo, press Alt+F10 together five times.

This will bring up the system restore menu.

Follow the on-screen prompts to restore your computer back to the factory settings

hope this helps

I set my laptop to the factory settings, and now it's reading a windows error messae saying the windows insallation is incomplete and to restart to finish installing but when I reset it, it just keep...

It sounds like the installation is looping due to a problem at the end of the installation. I would advise you run a complete restore from scratch again and make sure power is always connected to the Notebook throughout.
