Question about Garmin nuvi GPS

Open Question

When I try to enter a new address on my Nuvi 1390, only Arabic characters appear on screen. Existing addresses--favorites--appear as normal. I just can't add new entries. I navigated to the Settings/Language//Keyboard page and found that Arabic is now the ONLY option there. Can you help?

Sounds like a classic problem for a driver/firmware update. get an update here before trying anything else- http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/tungstenc/tungstenc_update_30.html If it still doesn't solve it you might need to format it and reinstall everything from scratch. Good luck

SOURCE: Wireless keyboard problem

just called Logitech support (who were more than helpful, very friendly, and picked up the phone within 5 minutes).
I have an MX3000 laser combo set and the receiver lost connection to the mouse last week. Then the keyboard went out a few nights ago. I had tried what everyone else here had tried to no avail.
So I decided to give a tech support line the benefit of the doubt and call one...
I'm very glad I did!
Here is the entire process for the Left Ctrl + Left Alt + F12 keys. First, when you hit these keys together, a box should pop up on screen to prompt you to reset the encryption sequence. That is what these keys are for. If nothing pops up on your screen (as was my case!), wait a few minutes for the button sequenece to time out, then hit these keys again. Make sure its L-Ctrl + L-Alt + F12 only. Within 2 seconds after that button combo, hit connect on the receiver. Within 2 seconds of that hit connect on the underside of the keyboard. Within 2 seconds of that, hit your Escape key on the keyboard. Sounds completely ridiculous, but this is the direction Logitech support drove me in. And it worked for me. And this is after I tried everything imaginable for over the past week.
We then moved on to the mouse, which i thought we had fixed. But now i have one working and one not working, so I think I need to re-run through this whole process to fix the second mouse. Basically, I now have 1 mouse that works on both receivers, on 2 different pc's with 2 different keyboards in two different rooms (both sets are MX3000 however).
The other now seems to have lost the signal. Will update if I get that second mouse to play nicely with me.
Hope this helps anyone about to trash a perfectly good unit like I was!

SOURCE: No route found

I recently had the same problem for the first time after owning my GO510 for about a year. I was navigating to a place about 1 hr away in NJ. I setup destinations for my wife using google maps using lat/long. When I put it in the tomtom, it correctly identified the street. It started planning the route, finished processing and gave me the error message.

I tried:
entering Lat/Long
entering cross streets
picking a point using TomTom's map on the unit
reformatting my card
getting the latest software from TomTom Home
even using the GUI in TomTom home to plan route ( GUI is very slick )

Nothing helped the problem

I couldn't really get rid of stuff on the card to get more space because the included maps of US/Cananda take up most of the space. I was able to plan a trip to an address in MI over 10 hours away, so I don't think it was processing or memory that was the issue.

Work around.

I found a neat feature "Itenerary" which was on the TomTom home GUI but not on my TomTom??? maybe hidden by default. When I went to preferences on the unit I said show all options. Using the itenerary, I picked about 4 locations on route to where she needed to go. This was great because I determined what I thought was a better route anyway. I did this on the TomTom home interface and it was much easier than using the unit's touch screen. Personally I hate having written directions that don't match what Tomtom suggests. Each point was set as a "way point" and only the final location was a destination. I asked it to plan the route using the itenerary. It echoed back that the first stop would be my final destination. AND.... it was able to plan that route.

Of course. this doesn't help if you are in the middle of nowhere and need to just give a final destination, but with a little luck, you might be able to use the touchscreen and set a way point somewhere in the middle of where you are going and actually get to your final destation.

Good luck.

Does your Garmin Nuvi 1390 Freeze at Loading Maps?
Does it lock up or stop working?

This tip will describe how to perform a hard reset of the device, and how to backup your 'Favorites' in case the hard reset erases them. The next step in fixing your Nuvi when it doesn't start properly is to update its system software using Garmin WebUpdater.

A hard reset (or Clear All User Data) has been known to resolve unit quirks and strange behavior. It's generally recommended to perform it after a firmware update but is not required by any means. However, if you're seeing quirks and strange behavior with your unit after the firmware update, it is a good idea to do a hard reset of the unit.

Backup and Restoration Procedure for Favorites:

The Hard Reset procedure has been known to delete your Favorites, so back them up beforehand.

  1. From the Nuvi drive, copy '/Garmin/GPX/current.gpx' to a backup location on your computer.
  2. After the hard reset, copy your backed up 'current.gpx' from your computer back to the '/Garmin/GPX/' folder on the Nuvi, but be sure to rename it 'temp.gpx'.
  3. On the next power cycle, the Favorites will be read from 'temp.gpx' into the non-user accessible memory area on the Nuvi where they are actually stored.
Perform the Hard Reset:

*Note that this will clear all user selected settings on the unit

  1. Power the unit off.
  2. Remove the battery and wait several minutes.
  3. Install the battery.
  4. Press and hold (and continue to hold) the bottom-right corner of the screen while powering the unit on.
  5. Continue to hold the screen until the "Do you want to erase all user data?" prompt appears.
  6. Press "yes" and the unit will reboot. This resets all your location settings and user preferences.

If possible after the hard reset, let the unit sit outdoors in the open for about 30 minutes or so to let the unit re-acquire the satellite almanac data.

You have now performed a hard reset of your Garmin Nuvi 1390 series GPS unit.

I hope that helps.

Hi, I have entered my new address into my Nuvi 1300 but my old address is still there. How do I delete my old address as well as other addresses I no longer need. Thank you Denise

There are two ways to do this. If you want to delete the address from showing up in the unit when accessing the "Recently Found" locations, simply go to "Recently Found" and select "Clear" from the bottom menu. If you want to delete the saved address from the "Favorites," go to the Home Screen and select "Where to?" Then select the category where you favorite is located (may not show categories if you have none). Now select the old address from the list and select "delete," and then confirm.

How do you enter an address into the favorites ?

Hello,

follow the steps below:

  1. Click "Where To?" on the touchscreen.
  2. Select "Address."
  3. Enter the address on the screen using the on-screen keyboard. As you type, it will narrow the options down for you until you see the correct one. Select the address by tapping it with your finger.
  4. The next screen will show the address entered and have a big green "Go!" button. At the bottom, select "save." You can now access this address in the "Favorites" section of the menu.
Good luck.
