Red smudges on screen

I have a Pioneer PDP-502MXE with a PDA-5001. Smudgy red blobs appear in the top 1/3rd of the screen, but only when the area is predominately blue, and only after the screen has been on for a while; although the length of time till this occurs is shortening. I have tried: 1. adjusting the white balance, this makes very little difference. 2. Playing a white screen for several hours. This seems to have made it start sooner now. So not noticeably worse just happens sooner. 2. Playing a high resolution animation (like finding nemo) this also has had no effect. It does seem to have something to do with the screen warming up, as the phenomena only occurs after it has been running for a while, and then only when the background is blue. The screen has had 9970 hours of run time. And it isnt overheating, as I have interogated it via the integrator menue. I dont think that it is a problem with a burn in that section, as it varies in size every time I switch on, and sometimes it takes an hour or so before it appears. Is it possible for me to make an internal adjustment to the voltage to this section of the screen

I have a similar problem, only with the top turning green/blue, it looks as many as 14 to 16 verticle stripes of color. My power supply was replaced approx 6 months ago and the set has approx 12000 hours on it. Any assitance would be helpful. Thanks

Most likely a bad power supply board= you are going to have to find a Pioneer dealer to get it fixed or even get the part--many shops including the one I work for will not touch this brand of set.

PDP-502MXE dead set

hi all,
this problem lis the power supply board. be aware that pioneer pdp-502mxe has got 3 versions and all 3 power supply boards are different so before ordering a new or reconditioned one check the part number on the power board itself.
pioneer is not replacing the boards anymore.
check on
i did sold so many parts from this model.

Plasma turened off and red light flases twice

Red flashing x2 = Panel power supply fault

It would be easier to replace the power board than attempt a repair at component level (dangerous voltages)

What is causing black pixels or dots where should be a differant color, worse when should be red? Started off as a very small area near center of screen and very noticeable when should be red. The problem has continued to grow to a larger area over time. Worse when should be red but noticeable regardless at this point. It looks similar to a couple days beard growth on a person's face. A Pioneer factory person said it sound like the main A board needs to be replaced which he said would cost approximately $1000.00 to replace. With the price of TVs today that's not an option. How do you confirm that its the Main A Board and where is it located? In the panel or media receiver? Swapping boards is not an issue for me. I can do some minimal board troubleshooting as well but i do not have a scope at this time. I do have a good VOMs both digital and analog. Where can I access schematics of both the panel and media receiver. It looks like boards go for $30 to $150 online depending on the board so a do it yourself could be done for quite a bit less than $1000 quoted by Pioneer. Another issue, I watch quite a bit of Fox News, a carryover from an extended illness with over four months of hospitalizations. The Fox logo and banner have left what I thought was burn in but may actually be a retention problem. What do you think it is and if retention, whats the best way to get rid of it?
