Handle Replacement How do you replace the "latch" handle on the latch assembly?? I have both of the parts but there is no way of installing the handle on the latch assembly. Thank You

  • lindalou760 Dec 12, 2008

The latch was previously replaced while the unit was under a repair contract. Now it's no longer covered and the latch is broken again. Is this something I should be able to fix? (I'm not very technical...)

I'm very leery of paying to have it fixed again if it's just going to break again. There's nothing else wrong with the dishwasher... Do you know if Maytag has fixed this problem with the new latches?

Catriver is correct as far as he goes, but the real problem is getting the plastic handle onto the switch assembly. There must be a 'trick' to this but it eluded me and a trained repair technician so we used pliers and brute force. It should be noted that the plastic handle has been modified since the original. There are now metal reinforcements in the hinge pivot, which was the bit that broke off on the original without the metal strengthening. Suggestions for the correct assembly of the handle and switch will still be welcome.

You are going to have to remove the inside panel and get it from the inside. There should be 11 tork screws on the inner panel. Before lifting it away, disconnect the wires from the vent and dispensor wax motor. The latch assy will can now be removed from the inside. If you take your time and observe, it should be a piece of cake...Catriver..post back.

Ales, It's been a while since I replaced one, however it appears that the handle would insert through the front and secured to the latch assy. by the mounting screws that hold the latch down. I don't have one in front of me but I'll take a look at the shop on Monday. If I run across one I'll give you more detailed instructions. In the meantime maybe one of the other good techs on this site may have the trick to this. Catriver
