I have just replaced the colour cartridge on my printer and now it will not align.because it will not align i can not use any of the other things, ie; fax.i have read through the reference book and keep trying everything they say but still will not align.i hope someone can help me as i am pretty useless at all this stuff!
Thanks! Solution #2 worked great! I've had this printer for years and have never had alignment problems until recently. I thought I'd tried just about everything. The Black and White cartridge wouldn't allign. I held down the setup and options buttons during the initialization and it worked the first time. Thanks again.

I tried this and it worked.
First, disconnect printer for about 5 seconds and then reconnect.
Then hold down together "Setup" and ?ptions""buttons for two seconds. Then release. My problem was solved
This solution worked for me. However, I want to further clarify the steps: it is after you reconnect the printer when it is going through "initializing" stage that is when you hold down the "setup" and "options" buttons.
Well, I had the same problem and came here to find help. When I saw no response to your question I replaced my color cartridge with an new one and it solved the problem. If you just replace yours with a new one, I don't know what to do.

In my case this happened with black cartridge out of ink, colour cartridge low; replaced black: had permanent alignment problem, though test print looked OK; wouldn't print black. Replaced colour cartridge, then it all worked OK, straightaway!
Even though you do not print in colour, your printer will still slowly but surely **** out the colour ink in your printer/fax machine. The unit does a thing called purging. this is a necessary part of the printer maintaining the print head in a printable condition. Everytime it does this it will **** a small amount of ink through the head, Including your colour inks. Over time the inks will empty even if you don't use the ink. All inkjet printers do this and there is not a thing you can do about it. If you want to use the printer, you will have no choice but to replace the colour cartridges.
As a suggestion, if you only ever use black then you would be far better off with a small laser fax. they start from about $350au and they will give you a better print in text and the cartridges will last about 10 times as long as the ink jet.
the page should be absolutely new.and the scanner glass should be absolutely cleaned.and 1 main thing u replaced your black cartridge.but if your colour cartridge is empty it will not accept the allignment complete thing.it will show allignment failed as the particular colour is missing in your allignment sheet which is required to get the allignment complete.
1 - you may have bad cartridges...when the machine does an alignment it looks for specific marks on the paper...ie..green check marks before each line etc...if the correct marks are not there you will get an alignment failure...if the green check marks are there etc then you have a different problem...
2- spot sensor on the side of carriage is not working...this is the little blue/green light that comes on during alignment. Its what reads the markings on paper so if the markings are correctly there and you still get this error then the spot sensor needs to be replaced. Simple fix that u can do. We sell the spot sensor for $15

yes sometimes the even if the colour cartridge is not printing the necessary alignment pattern properly the printer is not able to read those pattern lines so it fails ur alignment.kindly try after replacing ur colour cartridge too.it should normally solve ur problem.
replace the colour cartridge aLSO AS IT NEEDS some specific colour to start this allignment and to complete but the colour is not getting printed so this error.
remove the cartridges from the printer.unplug the printer for some time.then again ON it and insert the cartridges and try .
sometimes it helps.
You could try opening the HP toolbox should be under Start--> Control Panel--> Printers and Faxes. under properties os options. It will be something like that. Then print an alignment page put it in the scan section of the All In One as prompted and that should align it also under the setting there will be clean print nozzles. If this fails I would seriously consider just replacing the printer. There also explanations of this at www.hp.com
