Hello there and welcome to fixya
This is a fairly common problems on these and other machines
Water-inlet valve A defect in the water-inlet valve may mean that it's no longer able to shut off completely when the electricity has been turned off to it. If this occurs, the valve may leak and drip water into the clothes tub. In time, the water may accumulate substantially. If this happens, you need to replace the valve. Water-level switch A defect--or an obstruction--in the water-level switch may mean that it can't tell the water to shut off. So the machine overflows. This switch senses the water level in the clothes tub. It's usually a diaphragm device with a small, clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level in the tub increases, the pressure on the air in the tube increases. When the pressure reaches a certain level, it activates the switch, shuts off the water, and signals the timer to begin the agitate cycle. You can either clear any obstruction in the tube or replace the water-level switch.
Please feel; free to post me back any comments on repair help or testing and removal ian installation if needed ill be glad to help you ok
Best regards Mike

SOURCE: Maytag Top loading Washer, fills but won't stop

there is a small tubing about 12 inches or so that connect from the water level dail to the tub of the washer. sometimes the clamp on there gets loose and that interfers with the communication. try changing the tubing and or just tighting the clamps. you will need to lift the top of the washer off to get to it.

hope this helps

SOURCE: at the end of cycle washer will not stop filling

If I could ask this question for clarification; “”at the end of cycle washer will not stop filling and overflows. maytag neptune fav6800aww””
It sounds to me that one of the Washer Water Inlet valves is not closing completely ad end of the completed wash cycle selection. You go to remove the completed wash load and water continues to flow is that correct?
1. If you pull the washer 120VAC power cord does water continue to dribble/flow into the washer?
If so you have a Water Inlet valve not seating, crude in the valve seat.
If it’s a Water inlet valve not seating and you are handy changing out the Washer Water inlet valve assembly it’s fairly easy to remove and replace. Let me know the answer to question 1. and we will go from there.

The Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.

See page 35/36 to access, remove and replace the water inlet valve assembly..

The part number for the inlet valve is 12002242. There is a Substitution P/N 25001046 If you DIY you may want to consider a local purchase, take your water inlet valve assembly to the parts counter and make sure the 120VAC connectors on the solenoids match up. The water inlet valve is easy to replace just follow the SM.

I’m an owner like you let’s see if we can solve the issue……Rich

Washing Machines will not rinse or spin

If the water won't drain out of your washing machine, either something is stuck in the drain hose or pump, or the pump is broken. Both fixes are simple if you're even just a little bit handy with tools. We're showing the repair on a Maytag washing machine.
What is wrong with a washer that does not spin?
If your washer fills with water but doesn't agitate, the problem is likely to be a faulty lid switch, a broken belt, or a problem with the motor. (Note: Direct-drivewashing machines do not have belts.) To diagnose the problem, do the following: 1Check the washing machine's spin cycle.

What causes a washing machine not to drain and spin?
If the washer won't drain there might be a clogged pump or hose. It's common for small socks or other small clothing items to get into the water drain system and clog the hose leading to the pump or the pump itself. Remove the hoses from the pump in order to remove the article of clothing.

My Maytag Washer won't drain or spin

Inside the main control switch has many studs of plastic. They get worn out and don't work. See if it works on a different cycle like delicate. No work; then you need a new control switch. Either way you need a new control knob switch!
