My Sanyo model# DS31520 was showing fine then just went out. Now it won't turn on. When I plug it in, it makes a high pitched sound. The noise slows down and stops when the TV is unplugged. the power button doesn't work. What's wrong? Can it be fixed?

We have a Panasonci CT-3271S8 and have the exact same problem. It just happened two days ago. The picture is completely out and now there is just a constant high-pitch sound. We have to unplug it to stop the noise. The TV is 7 years-old, so if repair will cost hundres of dollars, I would rather buy a new set. My RCA started to black out a couple days ago. The sound would stay on, just no picture. The first few times it could be corrected by turning the set off, then on again. But last night the picture went black and it started with a high pitch sound that could only be stopped by unplugging the TV. I think the TV is about 10 years old.My RCA started to black out a couple days ago. The sound would stay on, just no picture. Yes,it can be repaired, sometimes for no reason components fail and they need to be replaced,if you are familiar with tv service you can check the horizontal output transistor,it might have gone bad(shorted out)and is all is going to take to get the set back running, sometimes the output trasformer damages the transistor and both have to be replaced, first just change the transistor and if it blows up again then replace the transformer,if you are not too familiar with servicing a tv be safe and call for assistance from a servicer,if you take the set to them it should be expensive.Let Us know how it goes or if you need more information.

That is probably the flyback transformer and may be dangerous to service by yourself. Get a pro to look at it and stay safe. Voltages inside TV sets can exceed 10,000 volts AC.
Barb, noise may be from a power supply/ transformer on it's way out.

it's probably not the tube. Sounds like something is shorting the B+ from the power supply. Could be the Horizontal Output transistor or the Flyback transformer. Do you know how to find these components? I could be a rectifier diode on the secondary of the power supply as well. If you know what you're doing check those with a meter. If you don't know what you're doing, ask someone who does.
If it is latest tv check you have changed blueback option in menu(available in some model), then check the given source cable is proper. Suppose if it is old model there is dry contact in solder points. Otherwise make one general service by authorised service provider.
Rarely picture tube also shows the same symptom. High pitch sound is due to through deflection area LOT power supply is loaded. Compulsary horizontal output transister short. From your statement i think Lot puncture takes place. Change LOT and horizontal output transister and check tv is now working.
two audio out RCA type lacks a red and white.
only thing I can think of is make sure nothing is connected to the outputs unless your running it to a stereo.
now for the inputs are 3, video yellow ,left and right audio is white and red, make sure the yellow has yellow input rca plug.
still problems take them all loose and see it feed back goes away.
If still under warranty or if you have no electronic repair experience you should take the set back to the shop or to a repair person. Some of the solutions described below can be dangerous, TV's are very hazardous to service. Even when plugged out, TV's can store very high voltages.
Squealing noise is from the power supply teling you that there is an
overload condiction. The overload is shifting the operational frequency of the power supply into upper audio hearing range. Check the diodes and caps in the supply circuit and the active components in the deflection circuit. also resolder the LOPT, h-output, h-driver, and h-driver transformer.
Good luck
