The machine has three Fax Reception Modes: Fax, Ext / Answ. (answering machine) and Manual. The current setting can be seen on the right side of the display, directly below the date and time.

  • Fax Mode: the machine will automatically receive a fax when it has detected the preset number of rings.
  • Ext / Answ. Mode: the machine will check incoming calls and automatically receive the fax if it detects a fax signal. This is true even if the external device, like and answering machine, has already answered the call.
  • Manual Mode: the fax reception must be started manually by using the [Start] button on the machine’s front panel. Automatic fax reception is not possible in Manual mode.
To modify the Fax Reception mode:
  1. Press the [Mode] button directly below the Display Screen. The Fax Reception Mode displayed on the front panel will change to the next available mode.
  2. Press [Mode] until the front panel displays the appropriate mode
The FaxCentre 110 is an analog machine and does not support an Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) connection. To connect to an ISDN connection contact your telephone service provider to see if they offer an analog adapter. The machine can be connected to a Public Exchange Telephone Network (PSTN) or a private network such as a Private Automatic Branch Exchange (PABX).
To select the type of network:
  1. Press the [OK] button directly below the Display Screen. '1 Installation' and '2 Fax' will be displayed.
  2. Press [1], [5], on the numeric keypad. ‘15 >Line Type’ will be displayed.
  3. Press [OK]. '151 >Network Type' will be displayed.
  4. Press [OK]. '1511 PABX' and ‘1512 PSTN’ will be displayed.
  5. Press the up or down arrow button directly below the Display Screen to select PABX or PSTN, then press [OK]. '151 >Network Type' will be displayed.
  6. Press the [Stop] button on the Control Panel. The 'Date / Time' screen will be displayed

All faxes use automatic fallback sytem for dropping the speed as well as the machines communicate on the highest common speed therefor you don't need to set the speed. Apart from the situation if your phone line is disturbed and not receiving faxes and giving communication errors.... happy faxing omnipresent

Just bought and install fax machine (MFC640cw) I can send faxes but cannot recieve any. Phone rings, it recieves but it does not print.

It was installed on a VOIP connection. The Modem speed was changed to BASIC (9600 bps) which turns the error correction mode (ECM) off. Standard speed -14400 bps which may creat errors.
Steps: Menu/set - Fax - Miscellaneous - Compatibility - BASIC - Menu/set - Stop/Exit
