We have a Smeg SA8605W which has had a similar problem 3 times in its short 3 month life. The problem with ours is that the control panel on the front pushes against a very brittle plastic frame to activate the micro switches. Because of the brittle nature the 'fingers' of plastic break off and either get stuck holding the machine in a set cycle or break off fully so nothing functions. Gaffa tape or Elastoplast is a simple solution.

Smeg integrated dishwasher continually washing - won't move to drying cycle.

you should check the heating element. if the water is not hot enough, the timer will not advance. crack open the door mid-cycle. let the water stop flying around. then open it all the way up. if you don't get a big ball of steam, you have an indication that your heating element may not be working properly. this is not too hard to check the resistance with a multimeter and then replace, if necessary. good luck

Kenmore Dishwasher 587.15163401 knob stuck mid-cycle

See if it is stuck on a water heat cycle. if the heater circuit or the thermostat is not working properly it will continue to run looking for a rise in temperature. If these are in working order the timer it self could be sticking and not advancing.
