Will 1996 dodge ram 15oo tranny work in a 1998 dodge ram

  • Kevin Campbell May 01, 2019

Power source to the transmission. That is all that is needed. Wire may have broken. Happened to my 96 dodge. Wire broke right at the connection to the transmission.

Sounds like the speed sensor on the rear axle.

SOURCE: Dodge Truck Transmission

It could be the Vehicle Velocity Sensor (VVS) or it could be the Transmission control module (TCM). Check all the wire harness, V.V.S and T.C.M. The best thing to do is to check the truck for any DTC code. Auto Zone scan free of charge and hope we can find out why the transmission is not working properly. Keep me posted, be glad to help.

SOURCE: 1998 dodge ram 1500 loss of engine power, slight

Without a code to work with i know those trucks had a problem with the t.p.s. sensor . This will also cause erratic shifting of the transmission

I took a 5.9 motor from a 1996 dodge ram 1500 and put it in a 2001 ram 1500 with the 2001 transmission what PCM should I use one from a 1996 or 2001

You will have to use the one from the 1996. When Chrysler switched to OBD II they started setting all major components to the VIN number in an effort to reduce vehicle theft for chop shops. The ECU for the 1996 is set to the body control module for that truck. Switch any sensors or sending units from the 1996 to the 2001 engine that are not the same.

Will a sliding back window from a 1996 dodge ram 1500 fit a 2001 dodge ram 1500 both are extended cabs?

No it won't. Only 1998 - 2001 will work. The one for the 1996 only will fit a 96 and 97. Hope this helps....

The best way to do that is to start the engine put the transmittion in neutral with your foot on the brake and pull it out of 2hi,,,put the trans in park then move shifter to 4 hi or lo.

1998 dodge ram 4x4 transmission problems

You will need to get the transmission rebuilt. With the info that you have provided the direct clutches are welded together. Becareful about getting it rebuilt, most shops see Dodge transmissions and they see dollar signs. You should be able to get it rebuilt for around $800.00 to $1000.00 depending on amount of damaged hard parts. Thanks and good luck with your repair.

1997 Dodge Ram 1500 Transmission Shifts Slow

Have you changed the fluid and filter every 2 yrs or 36k miles?
Are you using atf+4 only?
If all the above are a yes then check the throttle cable to the transmission as it should be adjusted to move at exactly the same as the throttle and it they are out of adjustment the transmission will not shift at the correct time and wil eventually cause early failure, also after a rebuild the tranny has to be reflashed by a dealer

1998 dodge 1500 wont shift

first of all standard or auto i am guessing its standed standard under drivers side hood near master cylinder there is a small clutch reservoir if there isnt enough fluid it wont extend the throw out bearing far enough for a shift because the clutch pedal is hitting the floor not enough fluid to extend the slave cylinder to drive the fork second faulty slave cylinder or throw out bearing as far as the light blown dash bulb or somone snipped the wire or took the bulb out
