Memorex mt2024 TV turns on for 5 secs

My tv turns on for about 5 secs then turns off. Also I have noticed when I use the remote it will turn off and on by using ANY button on the remote. Weird. Plus I actually did see a blue screen for a little while after it had been unplugged for awhile. Please help. This is practically a new television.

It is the adapter. It needs to be replaced and you can only order it from Memorex. (I tried a different one and it worked for a little while then blew) The problem is that mine went months and months ago and Memorex keeps telling me that "it is on backorder". I originally got a 3 weeks to 3 month ETA but it has come and gone so my barely 1 1/2 year old LCD tv sits as a worthless piece of junk.

my Memorex 2024 has the same problem. It also shuts off and on by hitting any button on the remote. The best I can do is get a blue screen. I think Memorex should have a recall on this product.

My MT2024 does the same thing. It actually turns on sometimes and stays on but the sound is loud and I cannot turn the TV off, change channels, nothing. Sometimes it just turns on for a few seconds (before the picture comes in) and then turns off. I have never had a TV do this in my life. It is not that old. I have played around with the on/off switch, trying to by-pass and so forth and nothing works. I do not know where to even take this thing in for service.

Our T.V. has an August 2006 manufacture date. It worked fine until today, Dec. 28, 2007. Now it won't stay on and if you repeatedly turn it on, the channels, volume, etc, can't be adjusted. Same problem as all the rest.

    Bummer!

My set turns on for a few seconds and turns off again, no picture, no volume. I thought that the problem was because of a thunder storm, but I guess that wasn't the case. I had it pluged into a surge protector and that should've prevented anything from shorting out my set. I contacted the customer support line and that guy I spoke with told me that it was "out of warranty" and it would cost more to repair the set than what I origionaly paid for the set. What are they selling us? It was only 100 bucks but I think we should get a refund none the less.

I have the same problem. I called Memorex support (800-919-3647) and they said there was not a control chip or other part they could send to fix it. But, I could pay to have the TV shipped to their repair site in Florida and then pay them and additional $60 to fix it.

  • PINGO2 Dec 01, 2008

Same problem... my daughter dusted hers and static took it out.

I guess there is no cure for this but to chuck it. Only had it for about a year.

tv only turns on when you plug it in; then it won't turn off..can't change channels or volume on the tv or by the remote. It was working fine one moment and then when we went to turn it off none of the buttons work. We can still get a picture; but NOTHING else and you have to plug it in and unpulg it to turn it on and off

Well, I dont know whether to feel good or bad, my Memorex TV just started doing the same thing. I guess this is a really very poorly grounded TV. Mine is only 7 months old, and I still have analog T.V.'s(with the dial) that work. How is it that I buy a new TV for the second time, and they are ****?
I will not buy another memorex TV either.

Hi - I notice alot of complaints about the Memorex MT2024. Has anyone experienced this problem with the MT2024? The Video Setup Menu appears on the tv screen every few minutes while watching a program, dvd, or playing video games. You can exit the menu by pressing display or menu on the TV remote however it continues to appear every few minutes. Hopefully someone can tell me why this happens and what I can possibly do to fix the problem?

What's probably happened is that we have all suffered a static discharge that has probably erased some programming. All it took for me was a dusting of the front screen and, zap, a spark flew into the power button. I will not rule out some electronics has been destroyed, but erasing flash is, I think, a more likely scenario. If so, given the right equipment, this would be easy to fix. However, it is more than likely this procedure is out of the question for any repair shop. For starter, where are they going to find the necessary images to flash the TV (given what I said above is actually what happened). It is likely the only place this can be done is where they manufactured the TV. Add to that, if they have stop production of this particular model, even "your buddy on the factory floor" would probably be hard pressed to find the correct files / images. Assuming all above is true, which is getting harder (even for me) the more I type, the only reasonable solution would be to obtain a working TV and copying the image. But even that may be difficult as many contemporary processors have ways to thwart reading their contents.

Let's see, $90 TV + $5 recycle fee / year... not really that good... probably will not buy a Memorex again...

I also have a similar problem, it won't turn on unless I unplug and then any button on the remote will turn it off. Sometimes it then will turn back on unless I un plug again. Tech support said it was a malfunctioning control chip and to take it in for service and they will cover the parts and labor.

I have the same problem,(fortunately mine is stuck on sci-fi) and mine is also 1 year old. I cannot contact customer support at this time, as they are closed. I will try in the morning, but again its just barely out of warranty for parts and way out of warranty for service. Memorex support phone number (954)660-7000 to describe the problem in my own words. I turned it on, and noticed it was turning its self on and off. Eventually decided to unplug it and plug it back in. It finally stayed on. Buttons on top of the TV now do nothing. Buttons on remote cause it to turn off and go back into the on/off panic mode with one exception. The volume +/- actually changes the volume by one, then turns the tv off... but it does come back on. I feel as if the sleep feature of the tv has malfunctioned... but I am not a servicer. I hope tech support will help me with this issue, especially as I am not the only customer who has had it. I also have had the problem of not being able to enter in channel numbers since I took it out of the box. When I enter a two digit number it takes me to each of the one digit channels that compose that number. thats probably just a set-up issue, that i never bothered to resolve.

Mine has the exact same symptoms. Memorex tech support said take it in for service. Said they never had heard of this problem. Mine is 1 year old.

I see I'm not the only one with the same problem. There is another post with a date in December 2006, and mine started having the same problem in late December. Similar issue: It won't turn on using the remote or power button. If I unplug it from power and then plug it back in, it comes on, showing one channel (ch 6). It won't respond to any control on the TV itself, and if I press any button on the remote it immediately turns off. If I then press any button on the remote, it sounds like it will turn on, and the power light goes green, but after about 2 seconds, it powers down, without getting any picture. I suppose I can just leave it on channel 6, without making any other changes. I submitted a request for assistance on the Memorex website, but I'm not expecting anything from them. It's out of warranty.

I realize this thread is really old, but just in case someone else sees this looking for a solution. Our tv was just doing the exact same thing (not able to change the channel, not being able to turn it off, and flashing on and off every 5 seconds). It was stuck on channel 5. We were so close to accepting the fact that we would need to buy a new tv when we realized that the "5" button was stuck pushed in, so all the tv was trying to do was go to channel 5. As soon as we popped out the stuck button, it was fixed.

Can't say for sure if you all were having the same problem, but it sounds identical.

Hello this is solution#3 guest again: a few edits are in order. oops the number is (954)660-7100 (they close at 5pm EST) to skip through the automated menu for this particular model press 1 for english 2 for tvs 6 for customer support Customer support says 90 days on labor. 1 year on parts. 2 year on the picture tube. And there is nothing else they can do. I guess i can bring it in for service and hope its the picture tube, or accept that it is a lemon. pressing 5 instead of 6 gets you to the MT2024 special menu where they answere my question about the remote not doing 2 digit numbers: and my question about the remote is answered by the Dash button located right below the number 9 i rate the quality of the MT2024 as very poor, and i will avoid memorex in the future.

Tv remote needed

The most inexpensive solution, is to buy a universal remote. I own a One-for-All universal remote (model URC-4220) which works with Memorex TVs. I bought it at Walmart for less than 10 dollars.
If you want to pay a little more money, here are a few websites to visit: REMOTES.COM 1-800-REMOTES
MRREMOTECONTROLS.COM 1-800-221-1471
You can find a few more websites by typing in:
MEMOREX TV REMOTES into the Google searchbox.
Hope these suggestions help you out. Please take a moment to rate the info I have provided, but using the rating system below. Thanks.
