U150 error 1st cyan tank showed "2 of same color intalled". Shutting down and restarting corrected this. Now I am getting a U150 error on the cyan tank. Shutting down worked for a while, but no longer. Unable to print anything.

I ended up buying a New tank and it's working fine now. Cannon really needs to work on the Cyan chip. This happens to offten.

  • Rhonda Slack Oct 24, 2007

So far, it appears that when this happens, the only solution is to go out and buy a new tank........ Gee...... thank you Cannon......

U150 on the Photo cyan cartridge... Never used the printer for photos... ARGHHHHHHHHHHH on the Pixma IP6700D

  • Anonymous Dec 28, 2007

ditto, happened with my magenta tank. Turning printer off worked for awhile but now I will have to go out and buy a new tank too. Canon - you owe us one! Otherwise, I've really liked this printer.

I have the same problem with my Canon iP6600. No solution at all. This is the second NEW tank of Cyan ink that I throw away!!!

    model mp600

how stupid : yellow ink problem, and cannot print black and white, nor scan a document - Probably this was my last canon device

  • iloveburmese Feb 10, 2008

error message says more than one copy of the same colour is installed Black5

  • Anonymous Feb 14, 2008

    same problem but with black.

  • Ron75 Feb 25, 2008

Bought my Canon MP830 in Novemeber 2007, and within 2 weeks I was getting the "U150 Following ink tank cannot be recognized" for the yellow ink tank. Canon sent me a replacement yellow ink cartridge.

Now, after inserting brand new tanks for black, magenta, and cyan (they just ran out), I am getting the same error for the large black tank.

In the past, I've had some false alarms with the magnenta and cyan tanks, but popping the ink cartridges out and then re-inserting them eventually solved the problem, but this is a real pain.

I am spending too much money on replacment tanks for them not to work, and the printer ends up with lots of down time due to seemingly faulty ink tanks.

This unit does not deserve to be recommended by Consumer Report.

Message says "U071 More than one ink tank of the following color is installed. Bk"

Message shown is not the case. I have tried taking out all ink tanks and then put them in again which worked a couple of times, although not now.

This is the second time I will have to go out and get a new tanks. Last time was because the machine suddenly decided to stop recognizing the Cyan cartridge!!

    Rubbish and really annoying...

  • oakmario Mar 12, 2008

Same problem here with Canon Pixma MX700 bought just before Christmas 2007. I haven't printed a lot on it so the U150 error on the Black cartridge is really pissing me off. I checked the tank and it's still half full. I take it out and reseat it and the red light comes back on.

Then I close the printer cover and I still get the U150 error and the red light on the black cartridge is off.

Seems Canon has some duds with this design. Back to the engineering drawing board guys.

i printed 15 pages and got this U 150 error... crappy printer.. Canon.. never again

  • Anonymous Mar 31, 2008

two tanks of same color installed. I have an MP830 and it constantly tells me I have two #5 tanks installed. That's the LARGE one and you couldn't get two of them in with a hammer!!! Speaking of which, I may just use a hammer on this worthless pile of junk before I return it to Best buy and demand my money back! This piece of **** won't even let me print!!!

  • machead1 Apr 19, 2008

I just bought this printer in Dec of 07 and now am having this U150 error. It's driving me mad and it's too late to return the thing. I bought a couple replacement cartridges and it seems it's getting worse in a shorter period of time after putting the new ink in. Now we are trying to get homework out, science fair project and I will NEVER buy a Canon product again. AND I don't have money in the budget for another printer or scanner right now. I have never had an issue like this before and thought installing an updated driver would solve the problem. I would think Canon wouldn't have ridiculous problems like this....afterall......they aren't exactly new to this. This is more than frustrating......

  • gabk Jun 14, 2008

I had the same problem with U071 error telling me that there was more than one black cartridge installed. The first few times this happened it fixed it by removing and re seating the catridge, then that no longer helped after several times. I tried the wetting solution and bingo! it worked (so far).
Lets hope it stays that way.

  • MS_Boffin Jun 22, 2008

IP6700D. Started with internittent error - "2 yellow tanks installed". Cured several times by power cycle. Now U150 "yellow tank not recognised". So Canon think I've gone from 2 yellow tanks to zero without replacing any of the tanks. A neat trick! Now can't print documents I need for a business trip tomorrow. Awaiting Canon help-desk reply. Having seen the number of posts with the same fault I refuse to waste money on replacement tanks until Canon can offer a solution. Cheaper in the long run to buy a non-Canon replacement printer.

  • Flyman32 Jun 23, 2008

Yea. My Cyan is reported as having two of them in the unit. Same original cartridges in my IP6700D. I can open top, wait for the cartridges to light up, close top and then open and close it about 3 to 6 times and it will print whatever. Seems to help if I scream obsenities. I'm going to use up the cartridges and throw this piece of S*** away. I have always liked epson ink jets before and thought I'd try this one. Going to go back to epson.

  • Anonymous Jul 07, 2008

ip6700d same u150 error for magenta (pm).

If I remove all ink cartrides and add back 1 by 1. I get error u043 untill I get to my problem cartridge. Then I get u150.

If I swap with any other ink cartridge I still get the same error. So this appears linked to the printer itself instead or just being an ink cartirdge issue!

  • Anonymous Jul 20, 2008

i have an MP830 i get the U150 on the 1st balck cartrige... power cycle use to work.. but now no more.. wat it the wetting agent that is mentioned earlier? maybe the contacts need cleaning..??

  • Anonymous Aug 02, 2008

we have once used compatible ink and that didn;t work so we bought new original one but still it doesn;t pick one or the other ink tank we kept on buying the new one but still no good

  • kristiperron Oct 03, 2008

u150 Magenta has gone out on my MP600 and of course its out of warranty. Jeez, this sucks.

  • Anonymous Oct 03, 2008

this happened one time before as the alert light came on shut off printer and restarted and it fixed the problem but now doing that won't work. Going to try the wetting suggestion and see what happens as this ink catridge is 90% full....

Getting a message saying I have two magenta tanks installed, I'm on the phone with Canon now, they are going to waive the $9.95 tech support call and send me a new tank.

In the meantime if I have a print job he said to I'd need to purchase a replacement tank. He also assured me it's probably a chip problem within the tank itself, nothing more.

3 year old printer, my second Cannon. 2 Cannon camera's...all is good.

    Things break.

    Good response from Cannon tech...

Large black ink tank: PGBK on Canon Pixma 960 exhibiting same problem as described by others here. I'm still trying some stuff to try and make it recognize the ink tank but so far, no go.

  • Twilightz0ne Nov 12, 2008

I am having the same problem with my Canon Pixma MP800. It is with the small black ink tank. I think Canon should have to replace the ink tanks for us. This is not something that we did. It is their problem.

  • Anonymous Nov 18, 2008

i have the same problem. The cartridge is new. And already it doesn't work. What a shame. Isn't it?

  • Anonymous May 01, 2009

I too get the U150 error on my Photo Cyan color... Apparently it's the chip in the ink cartridge, but I didn't spend $400 on a printer that's going to destroy brand new ink tanks! Or otherwise be compatible with ink tanks that are poorly made!

Besides calling tech support, are these printers compatible with any other brands of ink? I know there are some off brands...

Anyone game for a class action against Canon? I've called, E-Mailed, and faxed, all to no avail, not one answer, no return contact whatsoever!!! Please post this info about these piece of **** Canon printers on every website you can and anywhere else you can, the world needs to know what GARBAGE Canon is unloading onto the unsuspecting consumer. Hopefully, it will get Canon's attention and maybe those losers will take notice when their sales drop! What say everyone boycott anything that says Canon on it. Come on Canon, take care of this junk you have ripped us off on. I am even telling people IN the stores who are looking at printers to AVOID Canon completely.

Same issue with error U150.
Tech support on the Canon website answered my question within 10 minutes. Within an hour they agreed to send a new ink cartridge. Try tech support!

Took me 10 minutes on the phone with tech support before they replaced my full compliment of cartridges. Same error, u150 on the cyan cartridge.

I was stern and didn't admit that anything I did was related to the issue. My cyan was nearly full anyway.

All I had wanted to do was use the scanner, but free ink half win, half loss....I still can't scan tonight

I ended up taking out the cartridge and re-wetting the nozzle by drizzling some water on a sheet of paper, then tapping the nozzle on the moist part of the paper (not directly in a bead of water). Be sure there is not water left on the cartridge before inserting. This permitted my printer to recognize the cartridge...I guess the problem is the cartridges drying out. YMMV, though.

Make use of warranty!

We had same problem with MP510 yellow tank. We bought a new one which worked for a month, then endless U150 again.
The device is now repaired under warranty, some parts changed, and so far everything is working.
So, if another tank won't solve, and there's warranty left, send it to be repaired. Guess there's no DIY solution. I thought also this to be our 1st and last Canon, but let's see ;) I really like the photos printed.

Call the Canon customer service number. I had that problem with my Magenta cartridge. I fully expected I was going to be stuck with a lemon of a cartridge and have to buy a new one. The rep put me through a few attempts to fix it and in the end they are sending me a free new ink.

I am very impressed and happy. Of course that doesn't fix my immediate need to print but so be it.

Error code U150 The following ink tank cannot be recognized

First, make sure you have the right ink cartridges. Here are the right codes: CLI-8BK and PGI-5BK for black, Yellow - CLI-8Y, Magenta - CLI-8M, Cyan - CLI-8C.

If the ink lamp is off then an ink tank error has occurred. Try to remove the ink tank and re-seat it. Make sure you removed the plastic cover on the ink tank. If nothing helped, you need to replace the faulty ink tank.

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

I had the same problem. My mp630 is also only 4 months old. I replaced all colour ink cartrdiges(inc black), but was only able to release the function for detecting the ink levels for magenta and cyan. Yellow and black then started giving error message U043, with them alternating between working, but never working at the same time. Getting them all clicked in with the lights glowing red does not solve the problem, as once the printer cover is closed, the same error message turns up. The only thing that worked for me is moving the chip slightly out of alignment, by pushing the sliding chip holder, and I only had to do this twice before they all started working and the printer was unlocked.

U150 error message

There was plenty of ink left in my Cyan tank but just replacing it with a new Canon CLI-8C one, as suggested by techguru005, did the job. I suppose that the chip must have been faulty?
Let's see how long this one lasts!
Thanks, techguru005, it's fixed for now.

How do I resolve Error U150 on Canon MP810?

have had a MP810 about 3 months. Recently I've been getting a U150 error message. My C tank is not lighting up and being recognised. When I open up and replace the tank the light comes on. Initially this allowed me to carry on printing but now I have a constant error message even after replacing the tank.
Is there a permanent solution to this annoying problem?
I would be grateful for any assistance.

Error code: U150 The following ink tank cannon be recognized (Cyan)

U150 ink error fixed!

I too was getting the error for unrecognized ink cartridge. Then the little green circ board fell out of the end of the ink cartridge and it hit me that maybe if I put in the little green circ board from the old ink cartridge of the same color, then maybe the ink cartridge would be recognized. It worked! So don't throw out an ink cartridge that still has ink just because of that error and hold onto your empty cartridges in case you need the little green/gold circ boards.

This works!

Canon pixma mp500

Hey- i just wanted to say that I had the same problem with my MP600. Unlike some people, I have a problem buying ripoff cartridges from a store. I use my printer alot and I simply refill these. You can buy any refill kit and especially with these cartridges, drill a hole near the top and just fill it and plug it. The sponge sucks it up and you're all set. As far as the Chip problem-it is a pain in the ass and the **** at Canon probably won't fix it. HOWEVER, if you still want to print and don't mind that your ink counter says that you are empty simply hold the "STOP/RESET" and the "Black" print button together until it clears and you'll be set. I do it all the time and I know it works on the later MPs. Check it out and stick it to the man
