I have 2 hp deskjet 920c printers in the same office, No 1 and No. 2.
When we run out of color ink in one of the printers we get the other's color ink and replace it. But printer No. 2, of the printers, seams to be too delicate and refuses to work with the No. 1 used color ink cartridge. No. 1 printer works with any used ink cartridge. No. 2 works perfect with any new ink artridge. (?)
Re: The color ink in my hp deskjet 920c won't work
Try cleaning the contacts (bronze like) with dry cloth both the cartridge and the cartridge holder most of the times there exist some liquid forms on both areas.
since you frequently remove the cartridges; their might be a broken part on the cartridge holder. the broken part, use, is to make sure the cartridge is in absolute contact with the cartridge holder's. the size the said broken part is 2 mm in all sides. so small that it has a big function.you dnt even recognize.

Try reseating the color cartridge and cofirming that the blue/green tape was completely removed from the back and bottom of the cartridge. Run a head cleaning and if that doesnt correct it then you may have a bad ink cartridge. It is possible that the printer is bad but I find that unlikely.
dear ok_ME_3, i have the 2610xi photosmart and i have teh same problem. it is a mecahical problom, and needs a new ink cartrige slot. i took it to geek squad and they fixed it for 10.00. I hope this works for you.if not, i would recomend an epson printer for your next prnter.
some printers share the ink from color to black but you can select if you wants to use only black just go to printer than properies than select to use only black but you probably have to remove the empty color one
Hi, yes I have had problems with these HP printers B4 and it was in fact the INK... strange as it may seem, Ya gota have them "Full" as it were. I have "Fooled" it sometimes by removing the cartridge(s) and powering on & of re-inserting them. But eventually always ended up paying thru the nose for the cartridges. I saved a bit by using refilled ones, but I now use printers that have cheap single color ones, eg: Canon i550
