What am I doing wrong with my star alignment process?

I do not have access to the Bushnell Customer Service urls and it must be because I live in an unsupported country. 2 Star Alignment method (telescope is completely on level ground): When aligning my telescope, I choose two stars (ex. Spica and Arcturus) that I am completely familiar with. However, the built-in computer suggests that the stars (Spica or Arcturus) are elsewhere according to the coordinates given on the handset. I am 100% sure of the locations of the stars that I have chosen. Upon trying to correct the built-in computer, I ignorantly align the stars by centering them each in the field of view. Thus, I would receive either a 1 or 2 star rating only. I could further justify the alignment using the object alignment given the presence of a planet and would get up to a 4 star rating but when put to the test, still proved to be inaccurate. Must I always update the TIME and DATE in Earth align when using object or star align? What is your advice on how to solve such a problem? If there is a need to update the firmware, how do I do it?

I don't know your scope in detail, but if you can read this you should be able to go to the user manual here

There are a few things common to these goto hand controls.
- you must enter the time and date accurately, and be correct about daylight saving settings, and observe the date format
- you most likely will have to go through time and date setting steps each time, but the control will probably remember one of these at least. You will see what it has already set when you come to that step next time around.
- the mount should be leveled as far as possible, or pointing errors will appear when the scope slews around.
It could be that the scope has no idea at all where the align star is, when using Earth Align. You are teaching it that, but if the rough location it tries to reach is way way off, it seems you need a second star and Align Star mode. Often with these devices you need one star from either side of the meridian.
You could also start again with a different city, but one in the opposite direction to the first. I would try cities all around the compass to see if one gives a better result.

I have a bushnell northstar 78-8831 and need to know how to reset the telescope. when in align earth mode it asks me to align star 2, skipping over star 1.

This scope has many goto issues. For one there is no way to reset the controller or to reload the firmware inside the hand controller. The firmware is probably corrupted.

You can contact their repair and support web site here:

I have a bushnell Northstar telescope #788831am. Is there a place i can update the are i am looking from. It knows las vegas nv and does not pull up reno nv. I need help.

I don't believe they have an "update" web site. However they do have a customer service web site here:
http://www.opticsplanet.net/bushnell-warranty.html

According to the manual PAGE 14 choose the closest city.

See this: http://www.bushnell.com/manuals/telescopes/78-8831_Northstar_GOTORV_4L.pdf

Apparently once you center the two alignment stars it does not matter. The closest city gets you near the alignment stars if Time, Date, etc etc are set properly.

There does appear to be a latitude longitude selection in the menu-- see the manual above. See if you can also set the exact Lat-Long in the hand controller.

I got a telescope for bushnell it has the skytour hand set with it but i cant get it to give me the right area for the plants i live in canada

Do you have the manual? Most GOTO scopes have an alignment procedure that must be followed. For example_

Train the drives

Level the tripod

Set telescope into the "home" position

Align and center on two stars.

Here is the web site where you can find all the manuals and also get customer service.
