The pc turns on runs thru its normal process, and then a screen saver appears but none of the icons on the desktop appear. It will just hang there.
Any suggestions... I have tried using the system's recovery disk, and no luck. I tried reinstalling the MBR and then restarted the pc and still nothing. There is an option to reinstall everything but most files will be lost. If that is my last resort I will do that, just thought if there was something to prevent losing files?
Please and Thank you

Re: Will not boot up!!!!
If you have your Windows installation disk then you need tp press 'R' for repair instead of a full installation.
This will repair all the system files and you will not lose any documents or settings.
But I think maybe you have a bad sector on your hard drive, so when you get up and running go to your HDD manufacturer web site for a diagnosis and repair.

If your computer gets to that stage, then I would guess you have an OS ( Operating System ) problem. Try booting from your XP installation CD. If that works then you may have to re-install Windows.
Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barelysee the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.
Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can beany kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vgacable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves yourvideo card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you rebootwithout you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN(Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correctkey for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key willnormally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.
If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash lightand nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card isbad.
Hello, to turn off the screen saver just follow these steps.
Open Screen Saver Settings by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, clicking Personalization, and then clicking Screen Saver.
To turn off all screen savers, under Screen Saver, click (None) in the drop-down list, and then click OK. - or - To turn on a screen saver, click a screen saver in the drop-down list, and then click OK.
Right click anywhere on your desktop, choose Properties, choose screen saver, change the time to the time you desire and click on apply, this should sort out your problem
Get an antivirus software. boot up in safe mode and run the antivirus software. You might try superantispyware.com this may help you it free. If it does not I use norton on my computer. to boot in safe mode hit f8 when the computer is booting up.
It could be your hard drive problem. Which I called it, "Crash." I would suggest you try to format the hard drive and reload the operation system with your installation CD.
I am not sure that the screen saver is making problems. Screen savers turn on after at least one minute of no activity, and turn off when you move your mouse or press a button on your keyboard.
Start your PC in 'SAFE MODE' . Are there your desktop icons?
Disable or uninstall the screen saver and and restart in 'Normal mode'.
To enable missing icons and more, right click on your desktop and choose Properties. Click on the Desktop tab and hit the Customize Desktop button. Next, under the General tab, check off any of the icons you want to appear on your desktop. Once you do that, they will all be returned to your desktop in full view. You can choose from the icons of My Documents, My Computer, My Network Places and Internet Explorer. Now, on the other hand, you may want to take some of those icons off your desktop. If that's the case, just uncheck them and they will be out of your way
If it goes to screen saver immediately after loading. Then run a spyware/malware scanner to remove the infection. Since no applications are showing up this is mostly likely what is happening.
