Have a canon sx10is cannot open battery case

When you say battery case do you mean the battery compartment on the actual camera ? There should be information in the manual telling you how to do this.

Canon sx10is does not power on after changing the battery door. new batteries worked fine prior

The battery terminals may be corroded or oily. Try cleaning them as best you can with a pencil eraser, or better yet with an ink eraser.

Wait - this is after replacing the battery DOOR? Did the door come with the proper terminals, exactly identical to the old door?

Canon Powershot SX10is All my action shots in

you should set it to a high shutter speed and f/stop also set your pictures to a RAW setting, if that made no sences let me know, and i'll say it abit more simple :)

Cleaning Canon SX10IS lens surface with water

As long as you donot make any scratch on the lens there is no problem. But I would advice you not to try out on delicate parts like lens of your camera. You can consult your Canon service centre. Generally lens cleaning solutions are available, you can use them, you can refer your camera manual. I have once used a slightly wet cotton, and my camera Canon SX110 is working fine without any issue. But better to take advice of Canon service centre.

Yes, all the installed drivers that are in XP are also contained within Vista.

Let's stop before you get in the bad habit of using bad software in the first place. Please see the following blog article, as it describes the use of a card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue:

Let's stop before you get in the bad habit of using bad software in the first place. Please see the following blog article, as it describes the use of a card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue:
