Toshiba 35A44 - Dark picture on all channels and DVD's
I have a Toshiba 35A44 that I bought about 2 years ago. This problem started about 6 months after I bought it, but I didn't have the reciept so Toshiba wouldn't warranty it.
The problem is the picture is always dark. It does this on all programing and DVD's. I can't hardly watch the TV because the picture is so dark. I have adjusted contrast and everything else and nothing improves the picture.
I called a local repair shop about the problem and they told me that a transformer needed to be replaced (they never looked at the TV, just diagnosed the problem over the phone). They quoted me $425 to fix it and said it MAY fix the problem. I am hesitant to spend that much $ on a tv that only cost $500 in the first place.
Has anyone else had this problem? The repair guy said it's common, but I don't know how knoweledgeable he really was.
Thanks for any help!

For this brightness problem actually came out from flyback transformer...so, before you spend and waste your money, try to adjust at back of your tv first. But if you aren't an expert, better ask technician to do because that transformer supply a very high voltage....there's two adjustment point at flyback transformer, one point for focus and the other one for brightness! try first...

I have a wild guess. I have the same tv and channel 72 is the proper channel to watch tv on. I don't know why, but maybe try channel 72 instead of the usual channel 3. Good luck, maybe a quick fix, maybe not!
this problem is due to
1 not proper voltage on crt terminals
2 check video output supply voltage
3 check luminance section of chroma ic
4 if tv is very very old than there is a possibility of crt getting weak
