Question about GE JVM1650 1000 Watts Microwave Oven
Hi, I have an over the range GE microwave (model #JVM1650S004)...the black plastic outter door frame has cracked and broken off. Can anyone please talk me through taking the door off so that I can replace the outer door frame. I've found the frame from several parts places for about $50, and it seems pretty straight forward..but I can't figure out how to get the door off of the microwave. Thanks, Tom
You need to use the entire correct model number at their site, but you can find a helpful exploded view PDF diagram by searching for "Repair Part" at the GE parts site: http://www.geappliances.com/shop/prts/ Normally you can separate the door panels without removing the door. I've included a diagram from a Sharp model that might help. If you do have to remove the door, you have to be sure you reinstall it exactly where and how it was, or you may get microwave leakage. You should definititely mark the locations of all the hardware before disassembly.

I think some of my cleaning solution seeped down in the front
door of my microwave and now it has this oranged burned spot in places.
It looks like the door is dirty but the residue is actually in between
the glass of the door. Any suggestions for what to do? Should I try to
take off the door and clean it or buy another door for it?
Thanks! Amanda in Alabama

I have a new panasonic with a stainless door and the door got scratched and had to be replaced. I oderered a new door but recieved a new door skin of stainless and a plastic surround with a mirror backing.
In order to replace I had to first remove from the inside of the door the plastic sub-frame (choke cover) than using a putty knife and flat blade screwdriver pry the outer cover off at the catch points.
No screws just plastic clips that are very fragile.
I felt like it was going to brake but it did come off.
then the door catch spring and catch as well.
reverse the procedure to finish.
All is well and I am out of the doghouse for scratching our new microwave door.

The truth is there is no solution. GE now makes it's products in China, so they are junk, China uses inferior plastics, because everything is recycles. This is why the microwave doors cracked. GE will not address it and will not stand behind their product. I had to order a new door to replace the one cracked, and it's been 5 years, I have yet to find any instructions or get any help on trying to figure out how to replace that microwave door frame. My solution, purchase anything NOT made in China by anyone other than GE. GE has forever lost me as a customer!!!!
