Sparking My Older Flair Ionizer has started sparking while running. This sis a new problem and we have newer ceramic plates. What do I do? It is loud and is leaving an area where it appears burned on the ceramic plate.

It's doing exactly what it's supposed to do. The bug zapping sound is from dust particles in the air, that's being pulled thru the unit. However, it should not being doing in continuously (unless your home is really dusty), it may simply need cleaning. Cleaning the unit, about once a month is recommended.

What's burning is probably your high voltage transformer. When your glass plates get a crack in them, they will spark. You probably have a burned out high voltage transformer. That's what produces the ozone. Helpful hint...........the high voltage transformer is also the one used in bug zappers

Open the back and change the Ozone plate. then slide out the ION plate and clean it with denatured alcohol. If no light inside, you may have to replace the bulb and / or starter. Hope that helps.

Sparking is what it does; Google the words ionizer purifier sparking and you will be let to explanations on how they use sparking to clean. Honeywell has been using that Technology for decades. Don't worry sparking in the unit is OK

I haven't seen an older Flair that I know of. There will be as many slots for plates as are required. The filter is definitely washable. Use an enzyme cleaner and rinse with hot water. The fan motor should be oiled every month or two. It should cost less than $100 to get it running in top shape.

no , it is not advisable to run the machine while there is an exsisting problem , it would be best not to run it untill the motor has been replaced

You need to order two ceramic plates and a lint filter. The lint filter is the one that goes on the back. The two glass plates are what ionizes the air. They do not make them from glass anymore. You will need to go to the ecoquest website nd order the parts. It will run you right about $75. Ecoquest bought Flair out a few years ago. Hope it helps.

get more distance from the two sparking points....with the power disconected, pryde the two metal points apart as mach as possible..to a quarter of an inch!
