The phone is dead but when someone calls it rings very quietly(almost can't hear it) and when I pick it up I hear a low ringing but otherwise it is still dead and I can't hear anyone. Could it be a faulty caller id box or maybe the jack? I tried a new phone in the jack but no luck. Thanks for any replies.

You have not mentioned the make and model for us to help.
However please disconnect the battery for a while and place it back, if the phone resets to boot up then check all settings, maybe set the phone to default settings.
If not the software must be reinstalled.
Mine will not ring... It just has a stupid female voice that says call from xxxxxxx call from xxxx and I can't hear the voice when I am operating loud equipment?????
you more than likely have "short rings" turned on, in the options of that phone. you'll have to go into the options menu, and look for setting that pertain to ringing and / or rings or ring length.....DON'T change DTMF tones though, that'll get annoying, as thats what you hear when you are calling someone else. hope this helps.

On the intercom, if it's a TA or similar phone system, dial 7311# for call waiting on outside lines and 7321# for call waiting on the intercom. (0 cancels).
