Question about Maytag Washing Machines
Posted by Anonymous on
The first time I removed and cleaned out the filter pump on my Epic Z washer, there was a fabric sock over the pump filter cache for some reason. I don't see this mentioned anywhere and I can't imagine it's necessary. It seems to be a breeding ground for bacteria, mold etc. Has anyone else encountered this fabric over the pump filter?

i had the same problem a couple months ago---i couldnt figure out why it wasnt draining. It kept saying "F-21"...well i called a "expert" and all it was was the lent trap inside needed cleaning....which isnt in the manual.....it is located in the back---truthfully im not sure where.....you have to remove a bolt and some screws and pull off the back and then clean it......hopefully some of this helped you...

The filter is in the front on this one. Under the door, there is another panel. There are 3 screws that a 1/4" nut driver takes off pretty easily. Get a bowl and bucket. There is a white screw cap that you should easily see. Open it slowly with the bowl underneath. Close it again when the bowl is filled and dump the bowl into the bucket. Repeat until no more water comes out then unscrew it completely. Clean out the trap and replace. There is a stop that prevents you from overtightening. See if that works. A six dollar nutdriver is easier and cheaper than any repairman.

There is no reset switch on the pump, or program options. If you have cleaned out the drain pumo and it still does not work, you may have a bad pump.
It does not take much to damage these small drain pumps. The error code is generated if the drain cycle exceeds 8 minutes. So...if the impeller or motor become damaged, and the pump does not pull water at the correct volume, you may still experience the drain error. In this case, you will have to replace the pump in order to get the error to clear. The following link explains how:
Replacements parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following websites:
Prices vary between sites, so shop and compare. The first three sites listed also have helpful exploded view parts illustrations to assist you with locating and properly identifying the parts you may need.
For future reference: to avoid a messy clean up when cleaning out the drain pump, you can use a wet/dry shop vac to pull a vacuum on the drain line at the standpipe to drain the wash tub and drain lines.
Read through the information provided and let me know if you have any further questions. I hope you find this information helpful.
NOTE: Maytag Epic is manufactured by Whirlpool, so these instructions do apply.

SOURCE: Hi, I am unable to
You may have coins or some other material in the filter preventing you from turning the filter, or the gasket may be really sticky preventing it from turning also. Try using a pair of pliers or something that will get a good bite on it and try turning it. Be careful not to break the filter. If you should happen to break it and it needs replacing, here is a link to the part. Here is a link to the gasket in case you need it also.

Hello & Welcome to FixYa
This is a drain error in your Kenmore washer, if the unit is unable to drain then after 4 minutes it will display suds. The first thing that should be done is cleaning the drain hose and the drain pump filter, you can take out three torx screws from the bottom front panel and then clean the area completely, lift up the cap to clean the filter. If the error returns then check the drain pump if it is not working then replacing the pump is recommended repair. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.
