Find the owner's manual for the universal remote (you may have to get the pdf version online) and look up the model number for the tuner in the list of supported devices. The manual will have instructions for entering the code for that model number into the remote.

Its 50-50 at best that it will program or work.

Another option is take the bad remote to a repair shop--where I work we fix most of them and usually under 20 dollars.

Sony remotes keep the same codes for all there tvs. It will run older as well as the newest tvs. Hope this helps.

First to clarify: are you programming the Sony Remote Commander to operate the TEAC? The AIR-RM10 (S-AIR Remote Commander) only operates Altus S-AIR transmitters and receivers. The code needs to be physically set in the battery compartment to have the units working on the same frequency. Then you pair or couple the devices (so there is no remote code involved). Other Sony device remotes only operate Sony brand products. Would you please clarify which remote you have? I'll be glad to check if your devices can be paired with more information.

Note: the codes programmed into most remotes are limited to those for devices released at least 6 months before the remote was programmed. If your remote is older than the TEAC Dolby HX Pro, you may need a newer remote (or a different remote).

you have to use the remote control for the tv not the dvr.
the dvr control likely cannot control the tv inputs programming unless you can program the correct code. and most new lcd panels don't have the correct codes for existing remotes
access using ext on the tv remote.
you may have to go into the menu and tell the tv what the ext is set to ie.. a channel or a input.
