Question about Zenith XBV243 DVD Player/VCR

Unit accepts DVDs but will not play 90% of them

Unit accepts DVDs but on 90+% of them, will not play. Indicates "CHECK DISC". Have tried cleaning discs, changing Player Rating code to "1" or unlocked, Not sure HOW to change or modify Region code as some troubleshooting guides suggest. The SAME discs will play on our small "All-in-one" TV/VCR combo, which indicates the discs are not the problem. We have the same issue with an older Sharp brand VCR player in another room. Any suggestions? BC

SOURCE: Zenith XBV 342 DVD Tray will not open and the VCR will not play

Every DVD player has a reset function...it is just like rebooting your computer.
For my Samsung, it was to hold in the channel up and down buttons for 10-15 sec with the power on and the whole machine restarts.

Call your manufacturer support line and ask for this option.

It worked for me...Good luck

see the causes and remedies and fix it: God bless you

No disc. - Load a disc into the tray.
Disc has been loaded upside down. Place the disc with the label side up.
Disc region code does not match region code of the player.
Disc type is not the correct type to play.
Disc is damaged or dirty. Clean the disc or try another.
Moisture may be condensed inside the unit. Remove the disc and the leave the power on for one or two hours.

You may have come close to what the issue is---Blu Ray for several design reasons is much more critical than DVD---seen a lot with this issue----either a dirty or a failing optical pickup in the unit---I know as when first started seeing it in our shop changed a few and since under warranty found the answer--optical unit was the problem---shortly after that they started just exchanging the cheaper units.

"Loading" error. RCA DCR69702 DVD can't read discs anymore.

Replace unit - the laser assembly has lost the ability to focus on surface of disk.

hi,
ur dvds laser pickup unit have some problem. try to clean the Lance of laser pickup unit using an ear bud. do not use any chemicals or solutions .for this uhve to open the dvd player.
or bought a lance cleaning CD and insert it into ur dvd .it will clean a the lance to some extend. and the check it again. if problem remains, then u have to replace the laser pickup unit.

See if there's a factory reset option in the menu

Also,try cleaning the laser lens with 90% alcohol and a swab ( Gently) then buff it dry

Playstation 2 won't play DVDs

if it's a fat PS2 and
model SCPH 30001, SCPH 35001
(not including the models with an 'R' after the model #.

these models need the following to play DVDs:
- PS2 DVD remote with IR unit
- PS2 DVD disc player (sold with DVD remote w/ IR unit)
- PS2 memory card

you copied the DVD disc to the memory card. you used the memory card to play DVDs.

later models didn't need the memory card to play DVDs.

The messagin indicates that the unit recognizes the a DVD is present. Since it goes that far, it suggests that the information read from the disc is wrong. A dirty lens can cause this. Use a cotton swab as Welcomjee suggested dampened with alcohol. If that does not resolve the problem but a CD will play, then the optics are failing and need to be replaced.

Given the cost of replacement optics for your unit, if the optics are bad, replace the unit.
