GE Microwave (Over the Range: Model HVM1540DPBB) was stopping operation. It would beep, and the display would show garbage. I would unplug it, then plug it into the outlet, then it would display "keypad...

make this test and fix it. God bless you

  1. Inspect the power cordUnplug the power cord and check for voltage at the outlet. Also inspect for damage, shorts, or burn marks that can be a possible safety hazard.
  2. Bad door switchIf your microwave does not work at all and you know everything is plugged in properly and the outlet is functioning, then also check the door hooks and the door release button. Using a volt-ohm meter on RX1, check your terminals. When your microwave door is closed you should have a reading of zero. Once the door is open the reading should change to infinity. If these readings do not match up, replacement of the door switch is necessary.
  3. Blown fusesTo determine if your fuse has blown out, which may attribute to your microwave not running, you need to pull the fuse out using a pair of fuse pullers. Lay it down and using a volt-ohm meter on RX1, check both ends of the fuse in question. If you do not get a reading of zero, then you will need to replace the fuse.
  4. Bad fan motorLocate the fan and remove the leads. Again using the volt-ohm meter on RX1, check the terminals. If an infinity reading is displayed, it means that the fan has gone bad and requires replacement.

Sounds like you have a shorting membrane keypad, or there any be moisture or grease in the controls.
To remove the controller to check for grease and moisture, see the video here.

Touchpad If the microwave buttons don't work the touchpad might be at fault. Generally speaking, if the display is working and some of the buttons respond correctly but some don't, the problem is with the touchpad.
User Control and Display Board If the microwave buttons don't work the main control board is most likely defective and will need to be replaced.

THE DISPLAY INDICATES "F3", ALL OF THE BUTTONS ARE

You didn't mention the brand or model number, but on a GE, F3 means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

On some models, the keypad is available and can be replaced separately.

If so, and If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved. It's here.

On other models, it is only available with a new control panel frame assembly.

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame. That is a simple do-it-yourself job.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you unplug the keypad (as per the photo below or here) and move the circuit board into your frame.

If you want us to repair it for you, please contact us directly with your full model number for a free estimate.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Key pad lockout and load beeps

F3 on a GE / Hotpoint microwave means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

Since it's a basic counter top microwave, this may not be worth repair when you consider the cost of a new comparable unit.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

The part number of your keypad is
WB27X10624 and you can get it here for $51.37 plus shipping.

Good luck!

F3 Error on Display

F3 on a GE / Hotpoint microwave means you have a shorted keypad.

Direct spraying of cleaners on the keypad and steam from the cooktop can damage the controls.

Always spray non-ammonia cleaner on a soft cloth (not a paper towel which can scratch) and gently wipe the keypad.

If it will not successfully dry out, it will need to be repaired.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

If you would like to have us do this for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you need more help.

It sounds like you may have spray cleaner or another liquid in the keypad.

I always recommend that users spray the cleaner on a soft cloth (not on the keypad itself) then wipe the control panel off.

Otherwise, the spray can get into the controls and lock it up or make it act odd.

I recommend a soft cloth since paper towels can scratch the plastic. Also, I always recommend non-ammonia cleaners since ammonia can crack and damage plastic.

If it does not dry out over time, it may need to be manually dried or blown out with compressed air.

Ideally the control panel (if it's an over the range model) or outer cover (if it's a counter top type) should be removed to aid in the drying.

The keypad may also be damaged and need to be replaced.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

You can get Samsung parts here.

If you would like to have us do this for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

LG LMVM2055SB over the range microwave keys not working

Is it possible someone may have sprayed cleaner directly onto the keypad area?

This causes moisture to get into the keypad and sometimes onto the control board.

This could mean that they control panel frame with keypad (membrane switch) would need to be replaced.

Can you give more details on the cleaning?

It's displaying "lock" and The keypad is not responding.

1. Touch the "CANCEL" pad. 2. Touch and hold the "0" (zero) pad until the word "LOCK" disappears from the display and a single beep is heard. The microwave is locked the same way. You can download a manual similar to your model here: http://tinyurl.com/vpxss

There should be a "CUSTOM HELP" or "HELP" pad on the keypad. When you press that, "CHILD LOCK" should be the first option. The display will guide you to press 1 or 2, etc., to turn it off. We don't have an online copy of that manual, but it's part number TINSEB114MRR0 (zero on the end). You can order it via Tritronics at http:/www.wehaveparts.com
