G1 touch screen not working

Every time I charge my phone, the touchscreen stops working. I will try and touch something at the top and it will click on something down at the bottom. Also, when i try to move it to the other screen it will get stuck shaking. And, the icons will sometimes go on, like i had selected them to go into the trash.

I have this problem when sometimes my screen doesn't work. I press on an icon at the top of the screen and it opens up an application on the bottom, and then some of the applications open when I haven't even touched my phone.

I've seen the same issues. Been trying to find a heatmap / touch application, it looks like it's picking up touches in the wrong spot or extra touches. I've also noticed that the main menu key may be ignored.

Sometimes it is corrected for a short time when I power off the device for a moment.

New problem for me, I'm traveling and using the USB charger a lot, and it's doing a lot of wifi scanning. In case those are related.

I have exactly the same problem. I live in Spain and I don't have a USA to Spanish charger adapter, so I'm using a standard USB plug.

If I use the standard USB cable with my computer, it works fine, but if I use it with my USB charger... boom! The screen turns unusable :(

    same as nadinelemons

I use OEM chargers, usb cords plugged directly into computers, a no name car charger from china and they work swimmingly.

But! A travel charger I bought from china makes the touchscreen go haywire. The only usable button then becomes the End Call, and scroll ball. Oh, and I complained and they sent me a replacement car charger, same problem!

My workaround is to charge with a different power source, or stop charging. i think it's the power source. for me, the touchscreen goes crazy when i'm charging via usb with this old computer, but it's fine when i stop charging. it's probably an unclean power source messing with the capacitance sensor.

My ipod touch touchscreen has stopped working. ipod is fully charged and all buttons work but i cannot unlock. touchscreen is not responding

Try and press the top button and the home button at the same time for about 7 seconds.

Hopefully your Ipod closes down and you will see the Apple logo on your screen.

Just let it initialize and syncronize.

This will hopefully help. If not you might need go to your Apple retailer and leave it for repair.

Good luck

G1 got little wet but it dried out and screen shows all but now triangle and cant get touchscreen to work....what do i do?

If it got wet it might still be wet from the inside and that is why your touch screen wont work, You would need to open it and clean it from inside. Or it could have a bad digitizer and that is a second reason why the touch screen wouldnt work. You can try doing a hard reset if you says it just shows a triangle on the screen.

Turn the G1 off. If it’s frozen on, take the battery out and put it back in the unit.Hold the Home and Power keys down at same time for about 25 seconds. You will see a yellow triangle screen with exclamation point in the middle
Now to wipe the device clean:
Press Alt+L. Press Alt+W for a factory reset.
Press the Home and Back keys again for about 25 seconds.
The device should then reset again and the hard reset is complete.

Touchscreen not working properly

I agree. I'm on my 2nd G1 right now because my first one had touch screen problems. But the problems only started after I started using a different charger (it's been so long I can't remember whether it was just my blackberry mini usb charger, or whether I charged it from my computer; I think it was the computer). However, once it started spazing out it wouldn't stop, it was permanently damaged. So if your touch screen seems a bit finiky after charging with an odd power source, Stop ASAP or you risk permanent damage

Screen works but dosent respond to any touching?

Check that the "touch screen lock" is not engaged. To avoid accidental activation of the touchscreen, many models use some kind of "security" so that after a fixed time, the touchscreen will stop responding unless you (e.g.) click an unlock button. Verify this on the user manual.

There is no way to bypass the touchscreen step of the setup process. I repair phones, including the T-Mobile G1. I can replace the screen for you if you would like for $60. Please email me at [email protected] for more information.

Try to put only one SIM card in slot #2.

If not, try to put only one SIM card in slot #1.
The problem could be the 2 SIM card at the same time (also if it should be recognize 2 in the same time).
I have seen a V2 with this problem. Regards, davide

hi, this SHOULD be an easy fix. Just set it out to dry somewhere, but seeing how you dont have a screwdriver, this may take a few days, try a hair dryer on low, or a fan.
