Question about Trendware TRENDnet TEW-435BRM 802.11g 54Mbps ADSL Modem Router with 4 Port Switch (NETWTW435BRM)
I have recently bought a new Trendnet modem/router, so as to get wireless from our tiscali internet. However, even though we all get strong signal from our wireless cards to the router, we can't get it to connect to the internet. I have tried going into 'run' and checking the ip address etc but they don't match the ones I have been told I should have. I have no idea how to change these ip addresses and Tiscalis only solution is to restart the computer which doesn't work. Please help!!
As usual technical dept in all ISP's are useless and unhelpfull especially if it's not a supplied modem. (p.s. the ip address they are going on about is probably your routers address and not the ISP's address) Anyway; you will have to get into your routers settings page, as you may have to set it up manually as I had to for a friend who is also with Tiscali as the router cannot obtain an ip address automatically from Tiscali. Make sure you are connected to the router via the RJ45 network cable (Normally Supplied)and then Normally you type in something similair to 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.1.1(check your manual for this), in your internet browser eg internet explorer. Then go through the settings using the routers settings Wizard and manually input the following. Virtual Circuit Identifier - VCI38 Virtual Path Finder- VPI0 Encapsulation Mode VCMux Authentication Type CHAP Protocol RFC 2364:PPP over ATM (PPPoA) Modulation Type G.DMT or Auto Primary DNS Server 212.74.112.66 Secondary DNS Server 212.74.112.67 Save settings. Try accessing internet while you are still wired, if you can you know the ISP's settings are ok and you already know each PC can access the router, you should be away.

Can i assume that you have setup your username and password in the routers settings also, as it will not connect otherwise, because when online with a router it is 'Always on', unlike when you get the supplied modem , you normally click connect to get online.
Also please don't forget to rate this solution as we need to know if the information provided is useful or not.

Sandrew, I don't know about the original guy, but your post has put an end to a 20 hour long process of connecting my 2-Wire 2700HG-B router/modem to Tiscali. Not even Tiscali customer services could help, they where pretty useless tbh. Thanks very much for the information, Rob

I'm having a similar problem with tiscali and a 2wire HomePortal 1000. I get "Can't connect to configuration server" but most ordinary websites on port 80 work fine but anything like logging in to a https site or doing ajax stuff fails. I notice the automatically retrieved dns servers are 212.139.132.7 and 212.139.132.6 and if I change them to 212.74.112.66/7 I lose the connection altogether. The manual setting of dns servers asks for a domain name which I don't know. I've tried setting it to tiscali.co.uk and leaving it blank.

SOURCE: New Vista laptop and problems setting up wireless
Hi,
Chances are the wireless portion of the trendnet software is not compatible with vista. I would uninstall the trendnet software or let windows control the wireless portion of it.
Check to see if you are using any encryption ie. wep or wpa or wpa-tsk. If you are then you will need to enter the network key in windows.
good luck

SOURCE: TRENDnet TEW-432BRP router cannot obtain IP through DHCP
it seems that ur PC & cable modem configuration is ok, now the problem is with ur router WAN interface configuration. the problem would be one out of 2 - first to check whether ur router wan interface is configured properly to obtain IP address from DHCP (if possible, u can give the static ip address with same series as cable modem) second to check with ur ISP.

SOURCE: Trendnet TEW-432BRP wireless router doesn't connect to internet
HI! I bliv u are having some issue setting up ur router.. I will be more than glad to assist u. Dont use the setup cd, sometimes it works, sometimes its not. here are the steps u need to do:
1. press the reset button on the back of the router for 20sec..while pressing the reset button, unplug the power plug and after 2secs while pressing the reset button plug it back in and press for 30secs after that unplug the router for 15secs then plug it back in..once all the lights are solid and ok
2. connect the ethernet cable to port1 of the router and the other end to the lan port of your computer..
3. pull up ur browser then type at the url:192.168.1.1.or 192.168.0.1 or u can check the routers default gateway by right clicking the network icon on the lower right of your task bar and click on status and it will show the ip address of the computer, subnetmask and default gateway, the default gateway is the routers ip address, once u type in to the url, it will ask u the username and password, by default the username is admin and the password is 1234 or just leave it blank
4. it will show the setup page of the router. u can set the router on the specific internet setup that u have.
a. if ur isp is a cable company, normaly u need to do a mac clone on the router setup page by cloning the computer that is reg to the cable company, how to determine it. ex. the computer that is reg to the cable company is a desktop or laptop, if this computer is connected to the modem directly and u can access internet.
b. once u determined it u need to connect this computer directly to the router and do a mac clone and set ur internet settings to auto-dhcp..then save the settings and after that, unplug to the power of the modem and router, plug in 1st the power of the modem then once all lights lit, plug in the router, then once all lights lit, try to pull up a browser that ur computer is connected directly to the router.. ur cable connection shud be, cable from the modem will go to the WAN port of the router and connect ethernet cable on port1 going to the lan port of the computer..once u can access the internet, u can now access again the setup page of the router by typing at the url:192.168.1.1 and u can setup the wireless settings, u need to create a ssid or wireless name and a security..
5. If ur isp is a dsl normaly they give u a username and password to connect to the internet, ur settings on the router should be PPPoe
6. If ur isp gives u a static ip address settings, u need to set the router to isp setup.
a. how to check the isp of the isp given to u..
1. click on start
2. run
3. type cmd
4. it will show a dos prompt
5. from the dos prompt type ipconfig/all
6. it will list the ip address, subnet, default gateway, dns server
this settings should be type in to the settings on the router for static ip addressing..
if you have any querry pls feel free to get in touch.. good luck
