Sony Trinitron XBR's integrated HD tuner problem

I have a CRT Sony Trinitron XBR with integrated HD tuner. For the last year, the HD tuner has taken longer and longer to start displaying a picture. Now it takes 20-40 minutes to start working. Is this something I could fix myself? I'm reasonably handy with electronics (can build my own computer). If not, could I buy a set top HD tuner and use that. If so, would I use the cable input or just the antenna input?

When I push the power button, both remote and TV button, you hear it click and the speaker, but nothing comes on. I noticed the standby light continues to flash red

Power goes on, but the TV goes into standby mode. It also makes a loud noise when the power comes on.

when i turn the power on there is a really loud 'buzz'....it only happens when the tv has been off for a long time (ex.first thing in the morning) for the rest of the day it turns on fine. the loud 'buzz' seems to be getting progressively worse as the months go by.

How can I hook up my laptop to this tv?

Besides the TV as a possible cause, you might want to look at the tuner. I have heard that the digital (HD) tuners provided by cable and satellite companies often seem to do a poor job of tuning in SD channels. Using an integrated tuner or cable card seems to work better, though others could give more detail far better than I on what you'd need to do.

I have the Sony XBR 40in Trinitron and it won't

sounds like you have some cold solder or bad joints,power section, inspect it ,with the back off, but be carefull.........i had one that did that...bad connection in solder joint...had to resolder,if you have to resolder,make sure it is unpluged.hope this helped....

Sony trinitron xbr (9 years old) failing to power up

Turn it off u leave on to long ur CRT Tube will dies soner.Resolder the FBT,the flyback transformer, the big block of plastic with a red wire with a cap hook to the and the transistor beside it.This transformer is the HV to the CRT to get power.

You will need a model number before anyone can even do any research.
In general, there were never many CRT (picture tube) TVs made with the required ATSC tuner and if your set is 5+ years old, it isn't compatible with digital reception.

Sony 36 Wega XBR Flat Screen - sudden death.

This could be a scan amplifier failure, and there is a loss of high voltage to the CRT. Part of the power supply may have also failed. In these sets, if the CRT emission goes low in emission, or the CRT goes defective, the bias supply to the CRT will go in to protect.

An experienced TV service tech can troubleshoot the set and give you an estimate for service. Considering the age of the set, the cost of service may not be worth it.
