BLACK SCREEN When I turn on the TV, I have sound and can change the channels but no picture (black screen). It was manufactured on 10/98. The TV was given to me. So I have three questions: 1. What is the problem? 2. Is it a costly repair? 3. Is it worth fixing or should I just get rid of it?

You could be having some problems in the HT area. look for a burnt low value resister that is around the fly back transformer. the value of the resistor is marked by their color. so look and check the resisters that have gold on the third band of its color.

How do I fix a black screen with sound working and LED light on.

Unplug the set and let it stand for two minutes. Plug it back in and see if it works. If that doesn't work contact Philips support: http://www.support.philips.com/support/contact/contact_page.jsp?userCountry=us&userLanguage=en

How to reset tv. Have sound but black screen

LCD's use a colorful crystal see through display which only visible when light is shining through it. if you have sound and no picture it's always a faulty PSU. Very easy to change out actually.

Black out screen

I had the same problem once with my RCA television. It only happened on certain channels and didn't happen during commercial breaks. If I adjusted the volume on the tv the box went away, but came back shortly after. The problem ended up being some malfunction in the closed captioning. I turned it all off and changed the CC settings and never had the problem again.

How to get rid of a black screen on my tv. sound is ok

If you mean that you get a black box, with a little of the picture visible around the edges, then your closed captions are on and set to TEXT. This puts a black box on the screen about 10 seconds after changing the channel. Go into the menu and turn off the closed captions and the picture will be back to normal.
