DVD Camcorder appears to have erased disc mid record!
My wife was recording with her Samsung SC-DC164 using a Mini DVD+R DL disc and there was about 10 minutes recording time left on the disc. The camcorder then stopped recording and gave the message "bad disc". When she ejected the disc and re-inserted she got the same message. When we attempted to play back the disc on 3 different dvd players and a computer, no luck. It appears as though there is nothing on the disc at all.
Can anyone help us? We had just recorded our son's first Halloween and we fear it is lost.
Thanks so much!
I've had the same problems with my Samsung SC-DC164 and Samsung gave the same BS answers. CD-RW didn't work any better. I can watch them on the TV, but no luck putting it on the computer or finalizing the disks. I will never buy any Samsung products again. Any other suggestions to get this thing working? Ihaven't found any solutions that work.
I am having the same problem, have lost a lot of recordings because of it, i am told by samsung it needs repair, which i will have to pay for, i am very upset.
I know it won't play in a dvd player till it is finalized. Leave it in camera mode, hit menu, and scroll down till you see the option to finalize. If you finalize it, it should play in a dvd player. I am having a problem with my camera(same model) where it won't finalize the disc. Any help out there?

how did you transfer the video from the card to your PC?
did you connect the camcorder to your PC or did you use a memory card reader?
if you can play the audio then what you need is the right video codec for the unit try searching for video codecs through search engines
make sure that the software that you are using to play the video plays the file format of your video,
try using roxio, then connect the camcorder to your computer via USB, make sure that the drivers are installed, play the video through your camcorder then use roxio to capture it real time instead of the usual "copy-paste"
sometimes the disks in the camcorder can get break down. its known problem is no working for long time. if everything on the disc are important for you pls go to service. dont touch anything that you dont know.
have a good day.
okay so i have founnd the solution happily and i am actually finalizing my disk right now!!! woooohoo plug the camera in and use the remote that it came with to navigate through the menu!! the finalize button is now able to function!! I hope this works for u!!
I think i just figured it out. Somewhere else on the web clued me in that the disc got messed up (don't know how). I put in a new disc and it works. Other disc still doesn't though.
I've been trying to find out the same information. We went to disney this year lost 3 full dvd's worth. Called samsung all they told me was to use memorex mini-dvd's. Thanks alot ):
Anyways hopes this helps a little.
I had the same problem. Called Samsung, they told me not to use DVD+R DL discs (despite their presence in the compatibility table in the manual). They also said DVD+R discs don't need finalizing, which contradicts the manual. I can't get them to play in my PC.
For the first two discs I tried, it seemed to get write errors halfway through the disc, as if it had trouble with the second layer. I didn't record long enough on the third to find out. The camcorder still shows video on the third disc, but I can't finalize it and it won't play on my PC.
Glad I'm only borrowing this camera. Won't buy a Samsung, and probably won't buy a DVD cam.
Put it back in the Camera and see if it tells you the disc is finalized when it tries to format the disc. If it does then you know for sure it is finalized..
The same happen to me
