Screen behind faceplate stopped illuminating/working

On the Pioneer DEH-P960MP there is an option to Open the faceplate to expose the screen that displays wallpapers. I can open it fine (faceplate slides down) however, the 2nd face does not work whatsoever. No buttons work, it doesn't light up at all, and obviously no wallpapers. CDs play and eject just fine. Everything works besides that 2nd screen. Any ideas? Thanks

Thanks for the response. The display didn't all of a sudden stop working. It started acting up where it would illuminate but the buttons wouldn't work, and then it would work, and then everything just quit (no illumination and no buttons). Could the cable be dirty or is it common for Pioneer ribbon cables to go bad?

I went to parts.pioneerelectronics.com and inserted DEH-P960MP into the search. It came back with a list of parts, but no description said Ribbon Cable or anything similar. What may I be looking for?

    Thanks again

I have had a very similar problem where my faceplate is now stuck open and when I hit the "open" button to close it, it beeps 5 times at me as it would when warning me to remove the faceplate before leaving car. The audio and function buttons also occasionally stop working and the volume control knob also works intermittantly.

Is the ribbon cable easy to fit or is it a job more suited to a Service Centre?

Parts.pioneerelectronics.com You can call and discribe the part and they will confirm and you can order it. I think the part you need is the Flexible PCB CNP6498. Unsure if this will solve but at least this info should help.

The ribbon cable has gone bad. A new one can be ordered direct from pioneer at parts.pioneerelectronics.com Good luck!

Just for future reference, don't rate me until the problem has been solved. Thanks.

Yes, the symptoms you've described are typical of a bad ribbon cable. I did the search as well and have found the part is only available to authorized Pioneer service centers, call Pioneer and ask them where the nearest one is. They should be able to order the cable for you.
