TV will not turn on--it tries green light turns on and off 3 to 4 times then quits
RCA 1990's 36" Picture tube TV was working fine. I went to turn it on and it would not. Acts like it is tryin--green light turns on and off 3 or 4 times then quits. Screen, however, remains black. Also there is not noise or static.
I have tried unplugging. It has a detatchable power cord. I noticed that the power cord has 3 holes where prongs should fit and in the tv there are only two prongs. Could this be it---if so what do I call that part--to order it and install it?
Thanks for any advice. The model # is F35750ST. This was a very popular model at the time and could be purchased almost everywhere.
Re: TV will not turn on--it tries green light turns on...
I was wondering if you have looked through your service manual or owners manual for troubleshooting the problem. If not you can get service manuals online at http://www.servicemanuals.net/results.aspx?type=SM&brand=424&model=F35750ST

this is very common. it is the power supply going bad. it should run at
130 volts dc. but it is now running much lower that this. just enought
for the tv to come on. but not enough to power all the circuits right.
I have two RCA HD52W59 TV's. I have had one for 3 years and one 4 years. The one I have had for 4 years is giving me the problem. Last week the tv turned off while watching it. It wouldnt come right back on. 10 minutes later we tried and it worked fine. the other night the kids were watching and it turned off and smelled like something burning. I tried turning it right back on and got no power at all. I tried to turn it on two days later and it made a buzzing noise and the green light went out. Never did get a picture, no powering up on the screen. Any ideas? Don't want to spend alot of money. Really loved the TV hope it isnt junk now. Better yet I hope the same thing doesnt happen to the other one I have.
Check connections at the HV distribution box (where the leads from the flyback connect to) and make sure all of these are in solid first. It sounds like a device is burnt open, since the over- current protection is not activated. This would allow the TV to still turn on, but with no picture. Of course you had installed a fuse too large, so that could explain that too- don't do this, you might have made the problem worse by burning out more components. Could be a bad horizontal deflection transistor or flyback transformer. Transistor p/n 2SC5148, flyback 239111 for this model, RCA P46924. You can find them on ebay for cheap.
