My Whirlpool LSR9434PQ4 will not spin. In the regular wash cycle it will agitate, but in no other wash cycle. I looked underneath while it was running and the motor runs fin, and the gearbox is turning a silver bell housing which I'm assuming is a clutch, but the tub doesn't turn. Your thoughts?

SOURCE: My whirlpool top loader won't agitate.

Ok, sorry it took so long to write.  You listed the washer as a Calypso, but it didnt look righ, so did some investigative work for you.  What your describing I believe, is that the agitator top half (or the auger as well them) is sitting still and the bottom half if moving.  During the wash cycle, the top half is just sitting still.  If this is wrong, please let me know.  If this is right, you have a sort of simple fix.  Remove the top cap of the auger, pry gently between the cap and the agitator, the plastic cap will come off.  When you remove the cap, you will see another cap (sometimes you do, sometimes you dont) it will be white or dirty clear in color if its there.  You can put your finger on the lips and lift it straight off.  Then you will see a cap with a bolt in the center.  Remove this bolt (7/16" with long extension).  the agitator dogs (Sears part #387091) 387091.jpg.  You should see these under that last cap tha had the bolt in it.  Remove the auger (just slide it up and off), remove the dog holding cap.  Remove the dogs, but be sure you remember the way they go back in.  Next is the tricky part.  Take the cap upside-down, and place it back in the auger.  Quickly turn it back over, making sure the ag dogs dont fall out of position (you will be hating me the first couple time, just keep at it), then, with a long pair of needle nose, place the bolt you removed back in the hole.  Take your extension with socket, hold the bolt firmly, and slide the auger back on to the top of the agitator.  Make sure the locks and stuff fit right between the two.  Tighten the bolt (just snug, DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN, you will split the cap).  If all goes well and right, you should be able to roll the auger one way and not the other.  If you need any further help, or need someone to yell at when the dogs keep falling out, give me a shout, and we'll help you along.  Good Luck!!!!!     Jim

SOURCE: Whirlpool LSR7133KQ0 no pumpout, rinse, or spin.

NO...the problem you are describing are the typical symptoms of a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch shuts the washer off when you open the lid while the drum is spinning. This is a safety feature to prevent injury from moving parts if you decide to add a garment or stick your hands in the tub for some reason while it is in operation. On some model Whirpool's the washer WILL work initially for the wash cycle, then stop when it gets to the rinse cycle. I would recommend you check your lid switch to make it is not loose or broken. Your washer is also equipped with a lid strike (a small plastic piece on the lid that activates the switch) make sure it is not broken off or missing. This will give the same symptoms of a broken lid switch.

If you require a replacement switch, they can be ordered on line at searspartsdirect.com, or you can go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. The part number for the switch is 3949247. The lid strike (if required) is part number 358684. If you need instructions on how to replace the lid switch, you can use this link if you like:

I don't know how savvy you are, so I thought I would add the instructions just in case. I hope you find all this information helpful. Let me know if you require additional assistance.

SOURCE: agitator won't turn and tub won't spin

The motor coupling is broken, the part located between the motor and the transmission.

How to find out if belt needs replacement on a whirlpool WTW4800X02

Does it agitate? That is does it spin back and forth during the wash cycle ok? The agitate and spin are through the same drive belt, so if it does one and not the other its probably not a belt or motor issue. When it gets to the spin cycle does it try to spin, do you hear the motor or anything run or the drum try to spin?

Motor on wash cycle does not spim

??? wash cycle is not suppose to spin only agitate, most machine have a dual motor function, motor runs in 1 direction for wash then in another direction for spin. do u mean it does not go into spin? if so need to check the tranny and the clutch, the motor coupler in some cases and if its not agitating washing may have bad cam dogs in agitator, or bad water pressure switch, some times a bad door switch will not allow spin or agitation?

My whirlpool top loader agitator machine will not spin when the cycle starts

check underneath the washer for a relay called wigwag. It changes the gear in transmition which allows the spin cycle and rinse to spin. Very easy fix if this is the problem, About $15.00 part and 10 minute change

Agitator stops while in spin cycle

Assuming that this is a basic Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain washer, the agitator is supposed to stop during the spin cycle.

Please see the following Whirlpool installation and service manual for top load machines.

If you look at the description of how the transmission works, there is an "Agitate Cam" that lifts the "Agitate Gear" out of contact with the main "Agitate Rack" when the machine goes into spin mode

I have found though that because of the friction between the agitate gear and main drive shaft, including the oil itself, the agitator may move while in spin mode.

Will not spin on any rinse cycle

Hi, This washer does not have a belt. While the washer is agitating, if you lift the lid will it stop? Some models will agitate but not spin if the lid is up. It sounds to me like the lid switch might be going bad.
If you will get me a model #, I can look this up for you and give you a better idea.
