Calibrate the printer.

Testimonial: "Thanks Tom - I calibrated the printer, the icon is still there, but at least I can print using the computer cable"

  • Anonymous Apr 06, 2012

    Hey Philipp

Looking into your problem further, I discovered in some Hp printers there is a glitch in their Automatic Update Solutions program. Any restore to factory settings freezes the printer, which is what happened in your case. Since, I don't have your HP printer, I am unable to confirm this, and I don't know if your printer has the following option, but in your HP solutions Center click on settings, click on settings again, click on internet settings, turn off automatic updates, all of them. Of course, your settings may be different, but the idea is to turn automatic updates.

Its not the updates that are causing the problem, its HP's Solutions Automatic Update Program that causes the printer to freeze. After you do this, and it works, you can, turn it back (every now and then) to get your updates, but you may have to disable the Automatic Update Option again to unfreeze the printer, or you may not have to.

Again, I don't have your printer so I don't have the option, but how did you calibrate your printer that resulted in the partial fix?

    Tom

SOURCE: HP PHOTOSMART C4280 PRINTER WONT READ INK CARTRIDGE.

The cartridge is not seated properly and/or the contacts are dirty. Use a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol and gently clean both the copper contacts on the cartridge and inside the cartridge socket. Allow several minutes to dry and then try again.

SOURCE: Ink Failure on HP photosmart premium C309g printer

Turn off the machine, unplug the power cord from the back of the machine, remove the ink cartridges (lift the lid up at the base of the control panel), wait 2 min, plug the power cord back in, press the on button, wait until the printer prompts that the ink cartridges are missing, then replace the ink cartridges. If this doesn't fix the problem you may have to re-prime the ink lines to clear the error. You can find instructions for this at http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/hp-photosmart-ink-system-failure-1/.

My hp photosmart 5514 won't print. I put in new ink-black and color- and it goes through the motions, but the page is empty

I just had this exact problem on my HP 5514. Black won't print after running out of black ink. New cartridge no good.
I tried everything-no good. I suspected the pinholes in the printhead were clogged with dried ink because I didn't change cartridge in time.
The fix that worked perfectly was when I hacksaw top off old black cartridge & removed all foam wicks so now I had a funnel(can see clear thru). I installed the cartridge & filled it with alcohol, printed page & did head clean; then printed few more pages. Problem cleared almost immediately. I then soaked up extra alcohol inside cartridge with paper towel. Removed modified cartridge & installed good one. I guess this could be done for colors as well. I don't know if this is a proper procedure, but it sure worked well for me.

I have a photosmart C4700 and it won't print in black How can I tell if it's out of ink?

Follow these steps to check the ink levels: >Click Start . >Click Printers and Faxes . >Right-click the icon for your printer , and then click Printing Preferences . >Click the Features tab. >Click the Printer Services button. The Toolbox window opens. >Click the Estimated Ink Levels tab. A window opens that indicates the estimated ink level of each cartridge.
NOTE:Depending on the printer, the estimated ink level indicators can vary in appearance.
>If the ink level indicators show that a cartridge is low or empty, replace the cartridge.

Cannot get the black ink to snap in place.

Make sure the printer is plugged in and turned on...the ink cartridge carrier won't be in the right place if the printer is off.

How do i know if the ink is out? (besides it not printing anything)

It seems odd but there does not seem to be an obvious way other than if you get an error light. You might try downloading the HP Director if you do not already have it. Perhaps it has the capabilty within to give you an indication of ink levels.

HP Director download page:

Hp photosmart 375

As the previous message stated, I had the same problem and it was resolved by making sure that I used the original power cable. I couldn't find it at first and tried with three others all with the same error. Finally it was resolved by using the original.
