Timing is sporatic, usually 15-60 mins after start usually flashes orange prior to shutdown sounds like a capacitor discharging during shutdown i've read similar issues w/ recommendations of resoldering various parts, but haven't read anyone else having orange flashes or discharge sounds & wanted to check if these events are relevant
They are very relevant because you might have a high voltage ark from the output transformer or a shorted picture tube, the ark or high voltage leak you might not see but the shorting of the picture tube you will when it does it,being careful remove the back cover and leave the back open, turn the tv on and wait for the moment the shutdown takes place and look at the neck of the picture tube and thru the glass of the tube you might see the moment it shorts out and the set shutsdown,if you see something in the neck of the tube is because the tube is bad, take a look at the conections in the crt board maybe one of them is loose, the arking or leakage from the output transformer is dangerous and it should be observed from a safe distance(10 feet),if you notice something in the output transformer he will need to be replaced, both situations involved high voltage areas and if you are not too familiar with tv service you should get the assistance of a servicer. It is a good idea to resolder the main board if the two possibilties do not show or when the main problem is corrected.Let Us know how it goes or if you need more information.
