Question about Canon PowerShot A70 Digital Camera

1 Answer

A70 will no longer switch to the "view picture" mode anymore. Camera was dropped

Off a 4foot counter onto concrete (ouch) and the selector switch still works fine, but it just stays in camera mode now. What's funny, right after I picked it up, I flipped the switch, I could view the pictures I just took and I thought it was good to go. But the next day, it didn't work and hasn't since, so go figure. Maybe the connection behind the switch came loose? I tried to take the back panel off and got 4 screws out, but couldn't figure out how to get it loose at the top right by the mode selector swtich. It felt like it just snaps into place but I didn't want to break it. Any suggestions before I get overcharged by a repair shop? Thanks.

Here's a disassembly guide for your camera. It's in Estonian, but has lots of pictures to show you the steps to get in there. If you do get it open, try not to touch any of the elctrical connections or you might get a small shock from the flash capacitor.

I TURN ON MY A70 AND I GET A VIEW OF THE LAST PICTURE I TO TOOK.

The camera is stuck in picture review mode. Try sliding the mode switch back and forth a couple times, and leave it in camera mode to see if this corrects the problem.

My powershot A70 will not take a picture

It is a common problem with this camera. I had to send my back to have it fixed. Luckly it was under warrnity. Sorry I can not recall what they said was wrong, but talking to others, it seems to be common.

Canon A70 stays in replay mode

Gerry, The mode switch is a very common problem that causes the camera to remain in either play or camera mode. The stem breaks off the top of the switch and no longer functions. If this is not the case, the flex harness (operations unit) can get torn on top if the camera has been dropped. If the switch appears to be good, check for ground switching between the two outer legs of the switch, the micro gets a low signal from the mode switch to determine what state the cameras in. Good luck, this is a nice camera! Joe Weibel Custom Electronics (customelectroncis.org)
