Re:
The set might have lost the high voltage needed to light up the picture tubes, the easiest thing to check is for a loose conection in the horizontal drive transformer first ,the power supply and the output transformer area, you can try to find it by removing the back cover ,repluging the set, turn it on and with a wooden or rubber handle tap in different areas of the chassis to see if it reacts, you might have to keep pressing the power button while you are trying. If you are familiar with tv service you have a few places to check, some resoldering might be needed, you might need to check the output transistor for a short ,if the transistor went bad it did take a fuse or safety resistor. If you are not too familiar I would suggest to call for help from a servicer,I dont think is time for a new set just yet but an estimate will help you decide.Let us know how it goes or if you need more information.

i had the same problem someone told me to take the front cover off were the speakers are there the middle were you change the channels take them screws out and becareful there is electric stored up in there dont touch anything there is a square box with3 screws on top and three screws on bottom
turn your tv to video 1 and the first screw on top closes to middle turn it to your right a little at a time you will see bright colored lines then turn it to the left until they go a way then do the same with the other 2 on the top then shut off tv for 5 mins turn back on ahit the focus button it workd for me but be careful
Try (with your remote) hit Display + Channel 5 + Volume - + Power hit each key within 1 sec of each other and the tv should go into error check mode on the screen and display some data, record that and google.
Pull off the front speaker grill after removing 2 screws on the bottom corners. The grill will come out from the bottom before it can come down, then it is off. Undo the wires ties by hand to get 1 foot slack in the cables. Remove the 4 screws on the 1' by 2' hardboard cover to get into the bottom of the TV. Find the 6 adjustment pots (2 rows of 3 pots) One row is the "focus", do not touch these. The other row sais "screens". These you need to adjust. Turn on the tv. Use the tv/video button to switch to a black screen. You need to go up and down to get "cut off" to black for each gun/crt. Turn each screen controal clockwise untill you see color, then counterclockwise slowly and stop when that color goes black. Do this for all 3 screens = all 3 guns/crts =red, green, blue. If this Sony adjustment does not fix it, than you may need a new gun/crt which is expencive.
your tv has a vertical problem take it to a tech to have them look at it probably on transporting the set to your house it bump around.a look on lose solder could be the problem this could be verified by a tech.good luck.you need the repairman.
