I was talking on the main handset earlier and then the phone got quiet like it was dead. I looked on the LCD screen and it showed up VTECH B451 like it does before it searches for the base. I noticed the message light is staying on and I never saw it come on before. I thpught it might be the battery pack and I switched the one from Handset 2 and it still does the same thing when I changed the battery. The other Handset works like it always does, just the main Handset one now only shows b451 on the screen and the message light at the top of the phone is on. I even tried to reset the phone by unplugging it, taking the battery out, then wait a few mins, then plug it back in and put the battery in, but Handset 1 still does the same thing. Anyone have any solutions for this? Why would the message light be on if I don't have voice mail through the phone company?

Check the handset phone cord make sure its properly plugged in at both ends, if still not working, try replacing it with one from another phone to check if that is the problem.
if you can get dial tone with another phone, look into manual for any instructions, usually a toll free number for help. ( BEST ) otherwise take phone back for exchange. may be problem in the board.
The DXI4286-2 is an Analog phone, it does not allow for both handset to be used at the same time. You can transfer a call from one handset to another, but cannot talk on both at the same time.
The following is from the user's manual for your phone:
Unavailable message is displayed on the LCD screen of the handset. • Make sure the other handset is not already in use. Both handsets cannot be in talk mode at the same time. • Place the handset in the main base for at least 5 seconds to re-register to the main base. • Make sure the handset is not too far from the main base when trying to use.
You might want to try one of the DECT or a Digital 2.4 or 5.8 GHz phones, they allow you to use multiple handsets at the same time.
Your handset is no longer communicating with your base. Depending on your model, the solutions can be a couple of different options. If I could view pdf files on this computer I would look it up for you. But here is the link to the manual on Unidens website- http://www.uniden.com/pdf/TRU8865-2om.pdf
Nonetheless, give this a try. Power down your base, and pull the battery out of your handset. Plug the battery back in the handset and set the bad handset in the base cradle, and then power up the base. Wait about 30 seconds, then give the phone a try. If it still does not work, then you need to try to "re-register" the bad handset back to the base. Look in the manual under "registration" procedures. Hope my help fixes it for you. Good Luck, CG
Unplug the battery. Hold down The * (star) and the #(hash) keys simultaneously. Re-connect the battery, phone will beep and screen will be blank. Press the voicemail (righthand silver key under the lcd screen). As above EEPROM/RAM message will appear. Place handset on base and your problem is solved.
I had the same problem and I JUST fixed it! First, unplug the power to the main base (answering machine) for 20 seconds. Plus it back in. Put the phone that says "not registered" in the main answering machine. It will say "press the find handset for 4 seconds". Do that. It will run thru a series of stuff and will find the handset. It works!
