Motif rack does not power on

Open it up and look for a motherboard battery. Also look for discoloured components and also bulging capacitors.

If you see this message for only a short period of time, then this is normal. The plug-in boards are options that you can add to your Motif 6 to expand sounds/functionality. The first thing the Motif does is do a self check on the main keyboard first, then the plug-in boards. If the message just stays and does not go away, then there could be something wrong with either the optional plug in boards, or the main board the plug-in boards plug into. Make sure the option boards have not come loose, or have become damaged. Check the option board connectors.

A voltage "regulator" would only limit the voltage from going above a set amount - it wouldn't do anything for a power dip. To protect against that you really need an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) which would switch to battery power in case of a power dip. Do you really think you're home electrical system is that unstable? Are your problems happening in different locations?

I have heard of this fairly common problem before and the usual repair is replacement of the screen.

Call Yamaha of America and ask for "parts department". They can steer you to person that can supply the service manual on CD rom... They charge a nominal fee... used to be $15...

This is a long shot... If you have an add-in option board it may have become dislodged from the socket. If you move your keyboard this may be what happened. In any case it needs to be opened and look for loose cables, board, OR if you have a hard drive, the drive may have failed. The software in these units isn't smart enough to give the user any details of the failure/hangup.
