SOURCE: My stereo won't read the disks inserted in my CD player

All you can do is get a lens cleaner and hope that clears it up, otherwise you are looking at what might be an expensive replacement of the CD/lens/laser unit.

Wont play sound

Turn the main unit around and see how dusty it is. Dust can create static electricity and cause it to not work. I had the same problem with one of my units. I got a can of compressed air and blew out all of the dust on the back of the unit, and stuck the little red straw into one of the vent holes to get it out of the unit. Then used a vacuum close to the back of the unit to pull out any dust they may be left. Recently discovered that most of my electronics problems are solved with a 5 dollar can of compressed air. Also blow out around the controls on the front and the cd player if you can get the drawer open.

CD drawer will not open or close

Hi, The CD drawer mechanism needs a new belt. They have a motor that drives the tray mechanism, and there's a small belt that drives the main gear so that pushing the drawer in gently to close it doesn't damage anything. However, once that belt breaks/wears out, the drawer will stay in whatever position it was last in.

Problem with stereo playing cds

I'd be interested to know the brand, but you could try this:

(Assuming your CD player has only a standby button, not a full On/off button). Unplug the CD player from the mains. Leave for 30 seconds. Connect to mains and press eject as early as possible. Hopefully, this will allow the system to eject the CD before it starts trying to spin it.

Ultimately though, if it plays but won't open, it's likely to be a cog / gear on the drawer that has failed rather than some software fault as the CD plays.

Repair may not really be economical - depends on brand / value etc. If the disc is more important than the player you might end up attacking it....
