I have a user and her Brothers 8460n beeps 15 time then 15 times again the 2 times then two more times. I call brothers tech support they were no help. I ran a firmware update no help. I swapped printers the new printer started beeping same codes. I can't find anything like it or a list of error codes.

Yes this is possible. Depending on the type of installation that has been done on the computer, you can even scan documents to your computer as a network scanner.
You can check and see if all the features have been installed on your computer. Click on start, all programs, and look for the folder called brother. If you can find brother you can look for the sub category for Conrtrol Center. From Control Center you can scan by clicking on one of the icons. Like file or image.
If none of this is installed, get your installation disk and install the software, you can do a network installation or a Local (USB) installation.
If you decide to do a Local installtion remember to only plug in the USB cable when promted to.
If you decide to do a network installation, the machine should already be installed on the network, which I assume it is since its being used as a network Printer.
