My Hp Deskjet 1220c is taking hours to print even black and white documents.
The print quality is good and it has new cartridges.
A while back it seized when i tried to print 100 pages and inspite of re-installing soft ware it hasnt performed to speed since. I have tried trouble shounting but no luck . it is hard wired to a USB port on my Toshiba A30 laptop and I should have enough spare memory to perform the printing
Same printer, Parallel interface to desktop. One day its fast, next day and every day since it has been painfully slow but prints correctly.Same printer, Parallel interface to desktop. One day its fast, next day and every day since it has been painfully slow but prints correctly.

my printer prints very slowly, the printer heads sweeping the page about 2 - 3 times a minute. whilst it is printing the green light flashes continuously as though the printer is still accepting data into its memory. will try cleaning white band as suggested, if this fails any other ideas?my printer prints very slowly, the printer heads sweeping the page about 2 - 3 times a minute. whilst it is printing the green light flashes continuously as though the printer is still accepting data into its memory. will try cleaning white band as suggested, if this fails any other ideas?
Same as 'guest' -"my printer prints very slowly, the printer heads sweeping the page about 2 - 3 times a minute. whilst it is printing the green light flashes continuously as though the printer is still accepting data into its memory. My white band isn't dirty and it's been slow since new.
Bought in a package with a G4 mac in 2002 my dealer suggested it might be a sofware problem.
A friend of mine thinks they're wonderful but still uses '90's software and operating systems.
I once tried the HP website and gave up after too long. Driver update? Same as 'guest' -"my printer prints very slowly, the printer heads sweeping the page

This worked for me, open the lid of the printer, there is a "white band" attached to the 2 printer cartridges, this was "smudgy" with ink, got kitchen paper and cleaned it and used q tips (I normally clean my ears with them) and got rid of the sludge and dust located on the floor underneath the printer cartridges. After that printer is working fine, hope this helps!

Try to reset the factory settings: Go to Settings tab and press the Resets option. This will change all the settings to default factory settings. Try to print using another OS and check if there is a difference in the print quality. Try to print in draft mode and in FastRes 1200 mode. You may have it set to manual feed. Check printer setting on desktop. You will have to do a little searching. Printer options vary quite a bit. Start by right clicking printer and choosing Printer Preferences > Paper/Quality > Paper Source. This is my route, but again yours may vary.
You might be printing in a different mode...you can see it in the printing preferences tab(fastdraft, fastnormal, normal and best quality )... or are you directly connected to the printer? or in a LAN? try using a different usb port...
some printers share the ink from color to black but you can select if you wants to use only black just go to printer than properies than select to use only black but you probably have to remove the empty color one
Did you try both cartridges? Sometimes a fried circuit on the color cartridge will cause a out of ink on the black even when the black is new. Double check that you are using the correct cartridge for the printer. and look at the copper/gold contacts in the printer where the cartridge goes. look for dried ink or tears. Clean with a Q-tip dipped in water. CAREFULLY. If it's torn.... enjoy your trip to walmart.
This happens when the connections on the cartridge get old. Especially when you refill or buy non HP Cartridges, try buying brand new hp cartridges and you might be able to get a couple refill out of them before this happens again.
