I presume you have a pressure gauge installed on the radiator. and the engine is running. If you have no pressure after running the engine until the water temperature is hot, you should check the instrument of your vehicle to see if the engine is not over heating. The water pump is circulating the water so the water is in constant motion and is cooled by the air flowing thru the radiator. The air is drawn thru the radiator by the fan, either engine driven or electric powered. When the cap is off you should see movement of the collant in the radiator. also chech if you see any oil residue mixed with the water. in that case the water level should drop because the water is draining into the oil tank.. If you see no water movement the water pump is not moving the coolant thru the engine and the engine will over heat. The water pump is bad in that case.

How do i tell if i have a cracked head on a 1990 nissan terrano diesel

Have a coolant pressure test done and compression test done. There is a real possibility of a cracked head but you may be lucky with just a warped head and blown gasket.

I have a radator leak, will that cause my transmission to change slow or not at all on my 1998 cadallic deville

I would very much doubt it to cause the gearbox problem unless the transmission oil was leaking into the ra diator under pressure causing the gearbox to lose oil.

Changed the radiator and water pump. still burns off a little coolant but wont withdrawn coolant from resevoir

here's how the the cooling system on your suv works, when the coollent reaches a sertain temp the it will build pressure in the system the pressure will open the radator cap and will either push un needed coolent into the resevore or take coolent from it. if the level in the radator is fine and the coolant level in the resevore is fine then there should be no problem but if your still having problems try having your radator cap pressure tested.

Jeep is overheating when towing at 60mph is it a thermostat fault thanks

Hello
Welcome!
Yes the thermostat could be the fault also check to see if there is a coolent problom in the radator, after it has warmed up shut the jeep off and check the radator for cold spots, If your noticing the radator has cold spots then that should be removed and boild out so it is working properly.

Can I use thread tape on radator fittings and power steering pumps?

Highly not recommended. The pressure that builds up in these systems is more than thread tape can withstand. Use the right type of clips. Cheap approaches >> big trouble

Overheating

at the bottom of the radator at one of the corners useally the left side there is what is called a petcock, turn that counter clock wise and the radator will start to drain, open the radator cap and it will go alot faster.
