Question about Kenwood SIR-KEN1 SIRIUS Radio Receiver
My radio head unit is a DPX701 and the display reads "waiting" much of the time. It will intermittantly show the song title and/or artist but then will go back and just diaplay "waiting". Sometimes it will work properly for several minutes. I can not determine a difference due to direction traveling, traveling or stopping, temperature, etc. When I change channels, it will usually show the display for a second and then revert back to "waiting". I dont know if it is an antenna issue or an issue with the tuner. My head unit seems to display properly in all other source modes. The audio is not affected by this. It sounds great and is working properly. I need information on what to do to fix the problem.
I have a DNX7120 with a Sirius KCA-BT200 and it is doing the same thing. When I turn the truck on , the song title, artist, channel will not show up. If it does work then it will play one song then every song after that it shows the first song on the display. I thought this was a Kenwood issue. Maybe it is a Sirius issue?

I actually RMA'ed the unit back to directed electronics, took over 3 weeks to get the new one back after about 7 calls waiting on hold for the warranty department. I hooked it up, and still have the same problem.. I did find that if you leave it on channel 184 (Weather/emergency) for about 10 minutes, it forces it to go back to normal for about 2 days. Then, back to Waiting, Waiting, Waiting. Kenwood has no idea about this happening. I was hoping someone had performed this "firmware" update on the unit, and could post where to download it.

I believe it's actually a firmware issue with the SIR-KEN1. I havethe same setup and have the same exact problem. I have to cycle thru my "SRC" button and get back to Sirius for it to work. Not a happy camper. I read on the Sirius Backstage forums about the firmware, although I have written Directed Electronics (SIR-KEN1 manufacturer) and never received a response.

I just exchanged the sirius tuner (SIR1-KEN). I had called tech support for the manufacturer and they suggested that swapping the units would correct the problem It did not change at all and the same problem exists. I did not change the antenna because I was trying to avoid removing and replacing the wiring under the headliner, I did play around a little with the magnetic antenna on the roof of my vehicle and the display seemsd to work perfectly for a little while (about 30 minutes) and then started doing the same thing again. I am encouraged that at least it seemed to help. I am going go ahead and try changing the antenna. Maybe there is a problem with it sending a clean signal. I'm just guessing now but I will post the result as soon as I can. If anyone has a solution, I would be gratefull.
i have a kenwood dpx-701 with the same problem; good audio, but the song-artist-album info is not displayed, just says "waiting". after many calls to kenwood, they said the problem is in the headunit, and a certified repair facility could fix it. i pulled out the unit and dropped it of at a place kenwood recommended, it is under warranty still. i will let all know the outcome when i get it back. also i am using the sir-ken1 and also have tried the scc1 sirius vehicle tuner with the kca-sr50 kenwood HU adaptor, BOTH setups have the same problem. this supports the problem being in the HU.
I have a similar problem with the SIR-KEN1. It never says "waiting" however, it displays the first song's title, then stays on that. When I change channels, it displays the current song title, then after the song changes, it sticks on the first one.
Also, I'm getting intermittent audio, its like the buffer isnt buffering, with periods of no audio, or skipping.
I also have this problem. I don't know what my head unit is, but I first had issues with the Bluetooth module, I exchanged that and the HU. Now, I still get the system working correctly for a while, then the song title stays the same and I can't change channels. If I change sources to radio or USB, I can't get back to SIRIUS because the icon does not show up anymore when I hit SRC. I can remove the faceplate for a while and then put it back in. If SIRIUS starts to work, I have intermittent sound (in all sources!!). I have to reset the whole radio and then it works again. This is not good quality!!!!!!!!!!!
I was happy with Kenwood products in the past, but this is terrible stuff now. Kenwood says they don't make the tuner anymore (in house). How convenient. . .
I Have spoken to Kenwood and they are working on a replacement unit for me. We will see if this makes a difference.
