SOURCE: LG HD Digital Video Recorder LST 5402P has stopped displaying menu onscreen

first i assume you are trying to watch the unit through AV. If this is the case, turn on unit, press "Display Format" on the front of the unit, keep press it till you have "YPBPR" displaying, press select on front panel, next press "Display Format" again till you come to 576i, press select. Now press menu and it should display. If this problem occurs with HDMI, simply change the display settings to HDMI, and 1080i. Hope it helps, Murder-face.

SOURCE: Panasonic DVD Recorder - Digital tuner stopped working

Is your recorder hooked up to the new convert box for digital antenna reception?
I am currently researching the convert boxes for my dvd recorder. I found that some dvd recorders already have digital converter boxes already installed. This might be the case for you.

Can you record from a smart tv with arecording box

First of all you need to check if your TV supports recording. Some 2010 models do and most 2011 have it implemented. Look for stickers or logos such as:
  • USB Recording
  • PVR (Personal Video Recorder)
  • DVR (Digital Video Recorder

  • The following manufacturers support it in some of their models. Typically mid-end to high-end models. Check the manufacturer web site if you are unsure.
  • Samsung
  • Sony
  • LG
  • Philips
  • Panasonic
  • Toshiba
  • Sharp (only Time Shift pausing)
  • Grundig

    What you need

Many consumers have USB recording enabled TVs without actually using the function - simply because it requires an extra USB hard drive ou need the following:
    1. USB Recording: A HDTV that supports recording.
    2. A USB HDD: FlatpanelsHD uses a USB HDD from Transcend.
    3. Digital channels: Recording is only enabled on digital channels - not analog. You can record SD, HD and 3D.
Some manufacturers recommend USB hard drives with external power supplies but we have used a Trandscend USB HDD that takes power from the USB plug on all manufacturers' TVs without any problems. Manufacturers typically allow 1:1 recording, meaning that you will see no loss in picture quality.

How to set up USB Recording

Once you have purchased a USB hard drive and connected it on the back of the TV you can move on to "pairing" the USB HDD with the TV. Here is how to set up USB recording.

  • Connect the USB HDD to a free USB port on the back of the TV.
  • The USB hard drive now needs to be formatted (all data will be deleted).
  • Most TVs help you to format the USB HDD automatically but on some models you need to enter the menu and select format HDD (or something similar)

I have purchased an HDD & DVD Player/Recprder with digital tuner; Serial No: LN1A07350238/8 I have an old console model (some 25 years old) which has a coaxial connection only. As I could not...

You could try coax cable switch.
It will allow you to change from the signal going to the cable receiver and directly to the tv.
You would have to walk over to the tv and physically switch it.
shutting of the cable receiver may help too, while you are watching local channels.
Also, if you get a digital receiver, the digital signals come in much clearer.

    Hd recording

If the digital tuner can pick up the HD channels, then I don't see why it can't record them. However some TV channels have blocking on them to prevent recording. If it can't record a channel it will say so with a message, generally.

Hi, I am in Melbourne Australia. Can I receive gem hd channel thru my dmr-ez48v. I haven't tried but I do have a hd monitor screen that I can plug the unit into. Also what does the hdmi on the unit do....

HDMI means high definition multimedia interface.

When connected to an HDMI compatible unit, an uncompressed digital audio and video signal is transmitted, enabling you to enjoy high quality digital video and audio with just one cable. When connecting to an HDMIcompatible HDTV, the output can be switched to 1080p, 1080i or 720p HD video.

Panasonic uses Viera link option between their video products.

When connecting with a Panasonic TV (VIERA) or a receiver equipped with 'HDAVI Control' function, linked operations are possible. [Linked Operations with the TV (VIERA LinkTM HDAVI ControlTM)]

Please use HIGH SPEED HDMI cables that have the HDMI logo (as shown on the cover).
It is recommended that you use Panasonic's HDMI cable.
    Recommended part number: RP-CDHG10 (1.0 m/3.3 ft.), RP-CDHG15 (1.5 m/4.9 ft.), RP-CDHG20
    (2.0 m/6.6 ft.), RP-CDHG30 (3.0 m/9.8 ft.), RP-CDHG50 (5.0 m/16.4 ft.), etc.
    Non-HDMI-compliant cables cannot be used.

(the above is from the owner's manual of this model - page 40 tells you about linked operation using HDMI HDAVI control and how to set it up)

As for Gem HD, this unit has an SD (standard definition) digital tuner - it will not decode/receive HD channels. I should point out that 7mate also is a HD channel but is not specified as such in any menu or even their website. (I found this out by accident when I tried to record on timer 7mate one day and all I got was 'unable to decode HD channel' banner at the bottom of a blank screen)

Channel 11 is a SD channel - so this will work with your DMR-EZ48 as will all the other relevant main free to air channels (ABC/7/9/10/SBS). GO! is also a SD channel.

To be able to record HD to this combo unit you will need a HD set top box connected via its AV inputs. HDMI simply means you will get HD video quality from the combo to the TV, you will not receive HD channels from your HDTV to your DMR-EZ48 unit via this method.

Can I use a HD receiver as input for the Toshiba XS35? Will it record HD signals? Will it record anything if the receiver is HD? I want upgrade my exisitng Bell Canada TV receiver box to HD - can I...

Yes you can record any TV show HD or SD, however it depends on what connections you use and what the recorder does with the input signals. You can record HD shows but not in HD resolution if you connect using composite video (yellow RCA cable) you just get a down-converted resolution, probably 480. You must use a HDMI or a component video connection for HD BUT if the recorder cannot record HD video, it should just record it in SD resolution but it should record the input signal. DVD is not HD, you would have to go to Blu-ray for HD and there are not many Blu-ray recorders around. The hard drive has the potential to record in HD but the recorder would have to process HD signals and you would have to connect with HDMI or component video. I would say your Toshiba will record an HD show but in SD resolution. I don't think the recorder has an HDMI input or a component video input. Just composite and S-video inputs. To actually record in HD you should look at another recorder.

I have a Panasonic Tx l37S10B tv set, & a PanasonicDVD recorder,DMR-EX768EB. To ensure I receive true HD i have bought a Humax Fox T2 hd Digital receiver. I use these items to receive & record HD...

    Hi,

You didn't fully expain how each device is connected to the others. I don't think you have this set up correctly. Your DVD cannot record in HD so there is no point sending an HD signal to it - it can't process it. This is how I would set it up:

    1. Install a 2-way splitter on the input cable
    2. Connect output 1 from the splitter to the Humax receiver
    3. Connect the Humax receiver to the TV with an HDMI cable
    4. Connect output 2 from the splitter to the DVD
    5. Connect the DVD to the TV with SCART cable.

This will enable you to watch HDTV via the digital receiver and also provide an input from source (dish/cable) to your DVD player so that you can record.

If you've already set it up this way then it should work. I suspect you've connected the Humax to the DVD and TV and also the DVD to the TV.

Please try this setup and post back if you need further assistance.

Switch Toshiba projection tv to receive input from video-1?

If your DISH remote is programmed to your Toshiba TV, you can press the TV button at the top left of the remote and then release. This will put the remote in TV mode. Press and release the TV/Video button just below the clear TV button. This will cycle through the inputs on your TV. Continue to press and release until you have Video-1 displayed on your TV screen. I hope this helps.
